In short: Great tough race...already thinking about next years, it's that good. In full: Hard, hilly and a real treat. It just about has the lot: great course, real physical challenge, very friendly low key feel and outside of a fell race, just about the best value for money going.
If you like this sort of thing but haven't done it yet, then do it. If you're not sure, then give it a go, you'll end up as a convert.
Many thanks to everyone who helped put this on and to all those who took part; see you again next year - HLS Date of review: October 15, 2007
In short: Tough race, highly recommended In full: First time to do this one and I loved it. The scenery was amazing, easily made up for the crazy hills. Friendly marshals and friendly competitors. Date of review: October 15, 2007
In short: A beautiful course and the weather made it even better. The hills, as expected, were tough but made the course more interesting. Nice medal and wonderful marshals. All in all, a fab race. Date of review: October 15, 2007
In short: Blimey, that was hard In full: First time for me, boy was it hard. Big W in particular was a challenge - very steep (not runnable on the up-slopes, well not for me anyway) and a bit slippery on the way down as well.
Did the run to try to get some hard miles in before Beachy Head in a couple of weeks, I suspect it will have been perfect for that, but it also made me realise I haven't really got enough miles under my belt as the last couple of miles were desperate.
Still, great way to spend a Sunday morning. Good organisation (although agree one more water station would have helped - would have died without the bottle I carried) and supportive marshalling, nice medal and memento. Pride of place, though, has to go the South Downs - on a clear (eventually !) sunny day the scenery was magnificent, but even in the mist there was an eerie beauty about the course.
Not a run for the faint-hearted, and would only recommend doing this if you've got a lot of miles in your legs. This course will find any weaknesses........
Thanks to everyone involved. Date of review: October 15, 2007
In short: Great scenery - enough to take your mind off running (or walking) up the hills! In full: Great prep for the Snowdonia Marathon in a couple of weeks! My aim was to run it easy, walk the steep bits but run everything else, and I just about managed that, except for a 200m breather after The Snake. The marshals were great, the course well signed, and fellow runners very friendly and encouraging. Thanks to the bloke with the ASDA bag and three bottles of water at the end of The Snake - that was a life-saver! One more water station would have been ideal, but all in all an excellent event. I'll almost certainly be back next year. Date of review: October 15, 2007
In short: Relentless, thigh burning hills! :-) In full: Second time around for me, I forgot how tough it was. One of a kind event, if you want to push yourself over a very hilly 20 mile mixed terrain course this is the one. Good crowd, good atmosphere, amazing scenery I would recommend trying it at least once in your life! Date of review: October 14, 2007
In short: Fantastic offroad event and the perfect preparation for Beachy Head Marathon in 2 weeks time. In full: A tough workout this morning and one to gauge whether you have done suficient hill-work.
The hills are brutal, and the "Big W" almost finished me off. One you conquer "The Snake", you can finally sought out your breathing and pacing for the flattish but longish haul back to the Marina.
Weather was realy misty early on, and it felt quite eerie with large numbers of cows silently staring as we watchfully treaded our way through the fields. The sun then appeared and it warmed up to become a beautiful day and the scenery was showed off at it's best.
Plently of marshals, good signposting, but not enough water stations on what became a warm day. I needed my water bottle or I would have struggled to finish.
Great event, friendly, scenic, good value, very tough. Thanks to all. Date of review: October 14, 2007
In short: A tough course, give this run your upmost respect. Wished there had been more drink stations & mile marker's would have helped, even every 5 mile marker's would have been good, but apart from that a great, but tough run.Great training run for new york Date of review: October 14, 2007
