In short: Very well organised In full: Very well organised, with on site parking, plenty of toilets, no delays with chip collection etc. Lots of water and energy drinks available around the course, on what was a very hot day. On a day with average October weather the course would have definite PB potential.

In short: Snooker table flat course! In full: Well ogranised and very well marshalled. Course was very very flat but also very exposed. Very little relief from the weather (whether that is sun, wind or rain). A definite PB with favourable weather conditions. Plenty of water on the course. Good facilities at Race HQ but cold showers for the marathon runners! :-( Date of review: October 3, 2011

In short: Nice race, loads of marshalls, nice goody bag, the locals are very supportive! Love to try it next year for a PB with normal October weather Date of review: October 3, 2011

In short: Excellent well organised race In full: Running Postie's summary of 'Terrible Organisation' seems to be extremely harsh! I thought the race was very well organised.
In answer to her comments; As a race organiser myself I can fully understand why they didn't post out the timing chips. I'm aware that many timing companies charge race organisers for any lost timing chips. 15-20% of race entrants not showing up on the day is common. That is an awful lot of chips to lose, or have to chase up to recover afterwards. That's not counting those that get lost in the post and have to be posted out again! Also other problems I find are husband/wife entrants inadvertently wearing each others chips if you post them, or runners having entered deciding not to do the race and passing on their race number and chip to another runner. Whilst asking runners to collect their chip on the day doesn't totally eliminate all these problems it does greatly reduce them.
The comment about there being no directions to the school isn't correct. There were maps in the info booklet and on the website showing the race route and the exact location of the school. I'd never been to Mablethorpe before yet had no problem finding the venue.
Regarding the water stations - There were water stations at least every three miles and as the water was all in bottles it was easy to carry the bottle if you thought you might need extra water with you to make it to the next water station. The comment regarding no water station on the housing estate 'If it wasn't for a lives responder.... who knows what would have happened!' seems overly dramatic. Runners were on a housing estate, not in the middle of the Sahara! In an emergency, a 10 metre walk up a driveway to a front door would have elicited a cup of water!
Regarding not being able to leave the venue whilst the race was in progress. There are times when I go to races where I know I will have to leave before all runners have finished. All you need to do is ensure you park in a position (a nearby sidestreet off the race route if necessary) so that you can make a swift getaway and won't be blocked in.
My only constructive comment would be regarding the town crier. When he started ringing his bell before the start there was nearly a false start as many runners thought it was the signal for the start of the race! and Please could he keep his speech a bit shorter before the start of the race. Runners are all psyched up ready to race and don't want to listen to a long speech before they set off. But these are only minor points.
I felt despite the challenging weather conditions the organisers did an excellent job. Date of review: October 2, 2011

In short: Best organisation of any marathon I've done In full: Best by far of all marathons I've done for organisation and happens to be my closest! Well done and ignore the Miserable Postie who should have gone to Louth all day. Copious amounts of water in testing conditions, 95% of positive comments can be wrong Date of review: October 2, 2011

In short: Brilliant race despite the heat. In full: 27 degree heat in October made this race hellish. Putting the heat to one side, I cannot recommend this race highly enough. The race organisation was superb, the marshalls were incredibly encouraging and the crowd support was the best I have seen at an event. Great T-shirt and medal. Date of review: October 2, 2011
