In short: Improvements could be made... In full: The race started well around the athletics ground. Once out of the ground, it was 4 laps round Norman park, which was ok, but a bit repetitive. Plus the park was pretty muddy!
The organisation could have been better. There were no signs to the ground/parking. They didn't have an 8k sign to show runners on the way round and it was poor that they ran out of medals! Date of review: January 17, 2011
In short: Sort out the niggly problems.... In full: Route was practical but boring. Tshirt was given out from last year - if you managed to get one. Medal was non specific to the event - again if you managed to get one. Marshall did not correct when wrong course taken. Not even listed as a finisher.
Poor effort - and considering the organiser has been organising events for over 25 years, no problems can even be attributed to teething problems. I will not run in anything organised by the individual and or company again. Date of review: January 17, 2011
In short: Could do so much better In full: Distance too short Medal and T-shirt were ok if you got one No water for the back markers Could have been so much better, but I think they were caught out by the numbers that turned up, if they learn by their mistakes it could be a good value for money race. In short: Could easily have been so much better! In full: I have to confirm what other runners have said - the course was 500 metres too short, so what I thought was a PB turned out not to be. Organisation could have been so much better and a few small changes would have made a big difference: 1, signposts on the road leading to the park so you know you're going to the right entrance; 2, signs in the carpark telling you where the registration point is; 3, a clearly identifiable starting point; 4, a table for the guy giving out t-shirts so he can organise them into sizes. On the plus side - it was good to have proper changing / toilet facilites; I enjoyed running on a real athletics track; the course was actually ok and not as repetitive and boring as I thought it would be; it was good value ... a t-shirt and a medal. I would run this race again as the organisers could easily iron out these niggles and it has the making of a good mid winter run. Just PLEASE sort the distance out! Date of review: January 17, 2011
In short: Must try hard on every possible element In full: Where to start? Hmmmm... How about the start line. A relatively confusing set of laps around the track, then park, then track again. The organiser even started to get it wrong. The gun goes off and I wasn't quite sure where the official start line was.
The race itself was OK IMO. Very flat. A bit of mud, but that's par for the course. The really really big dissapointment for me is finding out that this wasn't a full 10K. If it was 500M short, this actually means I've dont a pretty rubbish time (I won't say what!). Somebody actually offering the drinks would have been nice, rather than having to slow to walking pace to pick up a bottle from the table (I have never done a race where they haven't been standing, waiting with bottles/cups waiting for you). After lap 1, I thought I was going to get pretty p*ss*d off with 3 more, but actually not too bad. Back through to the track and more confusion as the woman thought I'd finished when I still had a lap to do. Lordy.
The "goodie" back was laughable. Loads of flyers and an orange. That is ridiculous. Please put the medal in there (or weren't there enough?). Getting a t-shirt equally chaotic with the organiser doggy-paddling through them with no idea which sizes were where.
All of these things can be improved with just a bit more thought about organisation. It's the organisation itself that brings people to runs (usually), otherwise they'd just go for a run themselves.
So please improve next year.
And please (and I mean really please) DO NOT SCREW UP THE DISTANCE!!!!
In short: Only 9.5K. Low key organisation. Fair as early year run. In full: Biggest disappointment was short distance. My Garmin suggested 500m short so can't use for PB which was a shame as flat course. Mixed terrain including some muddy patches. Smallish event with less than enthusiastic organisers. Nice start and finish on track but 4 x laps of small park a bit dull and last lap included less than ideal run through car park. Yet good for an early year run out, if you are in SE London/West Kent. In short: Could have been better In full: My friend and I were convinced the distance wasn't 10k and someone's Garmin has confirmed that so what I thought was a PB turns out not to be - how disappointing! Not as well organised as other 10ks I have run - last year's t-shirt, generic medal and race number with Birmingham 10k plastered over it - odd.
I found 4 laps of the park dull - would rather have gone out onto Hayes Lane to make it a little more interesting.
But have to take issue with the comments about dogs and children on bikes - IT'S A PUBLIC PARK!!!!!!! And I think they did a good job of keeping out of our way. There were no signs (as there have been in previous years) about it being the Bromley 10k so why should people have stayed away? Date of review: January 16, 2011
