In short: My 3rd Brighton Marathon And So Far The Best! In full: Having done the two previous marathons this was by far the best, great weather (third year running) not to hot or cold, slighty windy by the seafront. The crowds and support were just fantastic and I just flew the last couple of miles high fiving everyone. Yes things can be improved, ie goody bag, road camber, trying to get out of the finishing coral, but this race just gets better and better and I've already guranteed myself a place for 2013 Also a big shout out to all the Brighton Mods on their scooters. In short: Excellent organisation, fabulous marshalling, amazing crowd support. The course is never too crowded with runners and the cheering crowds just keep you going. See you in 2013! In full: My only gripe is the goody bag, which after the one we got in 2010 was so disappointing, but that aside would have been disappointing anyway. Just a few token bits that seem to be in every big race goody bag this year; pistachio nuts, fruit flakes and mini coffee treats. For the race entry and that fact it's a marathon I would expect at least a good bar of chocolate! Medal however is fantastic and a good t-shirt. Date of review: April 16, 2012
In short: Fantastic In full: Brilliant well done to all involved in the planning preparation for this race. I salute you all. Volunteers were amazing and supportive. The organisation the route was excellent. The improved section mile 16-23 although painful for me was very much improved from last year. Glad to see those two friendly gentleman at the back of the baggage area where all the family and friends had been standing. It was quiet scary watching complete strangers screaming and pushing and shoving last year. Well done can't wait to sign up for next year!! Date of review: April 16, 2012
In short: great run In full: Must be the perfect race not to big well organised bit of a challenge well supported.I think this might be the next biggest race after London.Such a nice start easy to get to and well organised.Loads of water stations and well organised all the helpers giving encouragement. Most of the course had a good crowd of support even at the power station. The last 2 miles the crowds got real big and to say that i was spending more time high fiving the crowds than bothering with a big finish says it all.Well done Brighton i'm off to put my entry in for next year Date of review: April 16, 2012
In short: Great choice for a first marathon. In full: This was the perfect first marathon. The crowd and marshals were encouraging, plenty of water on hand, more gels/blocks/Powerade than you could shake a stick at and the highest point on the course (mild incline) was out of the way before the first mile was up. Loved it. Date of review: April 16, 2012
In short: Top credit to Brighton Marathon organisers and Brighton crowds In full: My 2nd Brighton Marathon and they just seem to get it right each time.
Organisation is slick and professional.
But the biggest reason to run this is the Brighton crowds - who are fantastic. From the start, crowds were out, cheering, high-fiving, handing out sugar rush refreshment and generally making you feel special for running the marathon. Sales of Jelly Babies, Haribos, oranges must have gone through the roof in Brighton this weekend!
And the final couple miles along the Promenade are to behold for noise and support.
In other comments there are some improvements listed but I had no problem with toilet queues (admittedly as I male I only made use of the urinal vans), the water pouches do work once you get the knack and a small price to pay than tripping over bottle, and I like the mix or urban, countryside, residential and even the industrial portions as it splits the 26.2 miles into changeable chunks (I did miss the humour of 'The Wall' this year though)
I said before the race that I probably would look to do somewhere else next Spring as this would be my second Brighton marathon. But after this year I'm scared to miss out on such a fantastic race. Date of review: April 16, 2012
In short: Mixed - Excellent organisation and marshals, but a high number of injuries ?? In full: The good bits : Organisation was great, marshals were supportive, the t-shirt and medal were good, the number of loos was about right, the medical support was good and the chaps on the course in the early hours setting up were absolute stars!!
The less good bit: (as above i.e. power station, loops) Out of the 4 runners I was with, 4 were doing well at the half way and all 4 got injured (1 pulled out). I've heard they are not the only ones so I hope this is anecdotal rather than a reflection on the event. I would say the camber on the road between 10 and 12 miles may well have been a contributing factor, and if the race line could be more on the brow of the road it may help.
Big thanks to the people of Brighton for being so supportive, offering sweets, oranges during the run and their best wishes throughout the weekend. Date of review: April 16, 2012
