In short: A very good, well run race In full: It was the second tiem I've run Wilmslow and I thoroughly enjoyed it again. Very well organised and marshalled. water bottles would be nice, but are not essential. I think some of the niggles below are overstated - it would be nice to get a drink as you cross the line, but it wasn't that far and it is quite a busy finishing area. Oh and it is flat, there are no real hills in there. Thanks to the marshalls and organisers as ever. Date of review: March 26, 2012
In short: Fantastic In full: Have to agree about water. I cant drink from cups. Please can we have bottles on the course? Also it was a very long way from the finish to the first sign of any drinks. Minor niggles in what is a fantastically organised marshalled race. Date of review: March 26, 2012
In short: Excellent day out, shame about the water In full: Agree with everyone else's view - a real shame not to have bottled water though I suspect not having it makes the clearing up task easier. Very long walk to get any drinks at the end too but who would expect such a hot day in March?! Generally very well organised and a fast race, thanks to the weather in particular the support all the way round was excellent. Minor niggle - getting out of the car park was a bit of a nightmare. We expected it but the club should properly advertise baggage facilities (I believe available at the club) which would encourage people to take the train and leave the car at home instead. Good goody bag overall but I liked the trophy instead of the medal which looks better on the mantelpiece! Date of review: March 26, 2012
In short: Another well organised Wilmslow Half. In full: The only real issue was the water at the end. It was about 20 degrees when most people finished and the only water was in tiny cups at the very far end of the finish funnel. Would have prefered a bottle to have been offered as soon as possible after crossing the finish.
Would have been nice to have been offered a Female small T-shirt, as a small bloke's one drowns me which is a shame, because the actual design is nice and subtle.
Marshalling and support along the course was fabulous, best I've ever seen it. Nice to see Emmerdale's Tony Audenshaw popping along to cheer and high-five around the 12 mile mark. Date of review: March 26, 2012
In full: Marshalls were superb across the whole course
Bottled water at stations would be a great improvement as given the heat I would have appreciated being able to sip water for longer periods than just at the water stations
Disappointing that there were no goody bags at the end of the race - you know how many are registered and with nearly 50 DNF how can you run out? Oh and it would have been nice to be offered an energy drink at the end there were enough 'staff' enjoying them
Minor disappointments from a slower runner but overall it was a lovely race on a fabulous day Date of review: March 26, 2012
In short: Will be back next year In full: Love this race. It's soo well organised. Great atmosphere just no problems at all. Think I would prefer a bottle of water at 1 of the drink stations as I struggle with the cups don't agree about needing sports drinks tho. You shouldn't need them on a half. Only the massive races have this and they get sponsored for them.
In full: This was my 20th Wilmslow Half and as always, a great experience even though it was a shade warm towards the end. The marshalls were fantastic, so much support and encouragement from them. Two small negatives, for a £31 entry fee water should be provided in bottles not cups and there were no large t-shirts at the finish - a pity since they are excellent quality. Perhaps I need to run faster!! Date of review: March 26, 2012
In short: Hot, Hot, Hot In full: The plus points have to be the organisation, which was faultless... the race ran like clockwork. Good medal and t shirt at the end too.
Negative points: The lack of water in the heat. If this was normal weather there would have been no problems but the hot forecast was predicted for days. It would have been better to get some energy drink on the course as too many people were struggling with cramp, dehydration etc. I passed so many people collapsed at the side of the road and this could have been avoided. That said, I have never ran a race in such heat in march so it isn't normal Date of review: March 26, 2012
In short: cups of water are ridiculous - every year its bought up -please take note organisers In full: i just think its dangerous having ridiculous tiny cups of water to drink from on a half marathon! we either choke , miss our mouths or go without water. its penny pinching. i for 1 would rather pay a bit more and have bottles. come on wilmslow !every year in these ratings we point it out . its positively dangerous- especially in hot weather like today was!! i have done over 35 half maerathons and never seen so many dnf and drop outs - cant help but think some of those are inadequate water ! also there were not enough helpers giving out water - so seconds were lost grabbing your own. i found this route dull too- just country lane after country lane - thats just my opinion though. on the plus side a big thumbs up to the organiser malcome - who was very helpful answering emails. you did a great job there. thank you Date of review: March 25, 2012
