In short: beautiful place to run In full: Well organised when you got there although not sure where i was going to start with. 1st marathon so found it a challenge but not too hilly although the final stretch up the white gravel path a bit hard at the end. Water stations good and frequent. Camaraderie on the course good, talking to other racers and pacing alongside lifted my spirits near the end. I thought it would be traffic free and bigger - no goody bags or even a medal for places. However, enjoyed the whole day with picnic for the family, a glorious place. Will definately give it a go again. Date of review: May 8, 2006
In short: not flat, but well organised In full: The event was extremly well organised and everything went to plan(as far as i could tell) and their was plenty of water stations (other races please note).
The route was pleasent but NOT FLAT! ungulating with the hill at the 8/18 miles you had to put the brakes on going down.
as others have said traffic is a bit of a problem in places and for what you get (medal, bottle of water and a banana)not exactly value for money.
all in all good for the beginner or a family day out Date of review: May 8, 2006
In short: Great weekend away - good organisation In full: It's all been said - but I don't mind the cost if it goes to charity. Organisors and marshalls must be congratulated for all their hard work, not perfect but it never will be. Well done. Date of review: May 8, 2006
In short: Small but good crowd, good organisation, worth a go. In full: Well done to the organisers. Not a huge crowd turn out, but big thanks to those who did, especially the guy with the music! The long white path (the Greenway?) was tough and could do with braking up, and traffic should be held off in Welford. But overall a good run and a fun day.
In short: Pricey. In full: Having run the marathon here twice and not enjoyed it I was surprised at how much fun the half was. Surprised to find no difference between full and half entry fees. Date of review: May 8, 2006
In short: My first half marathon - loved it ... but it hurt! In full: The organisation was really good - friendly stewards and everything seemed to happen when and where it should.
Loved the announcer at the end and the people who were handing out the medals were great even though they must already have shaken hands with a 1000 tired and sweaty people before I bowled up.
My only gripe would be the very many men who felt the need to stand against hedges and pee - from less than a mile into the race. It doesn't really seem fair to the people who live in the area - nor to us women who have to keep our legs crossed! Date of review: May 8, 2006
In short: Entertaining and Challenging Course - worth a look in next year In full: Tend to feel that although pricey, in compared to many, it is, 2nd only to the Great North Run, my favourite race of the year. Very picturesque, 2 or 3 hills (1 challenging). Lacked a little atmosphere this year due to the reduction in crowd numbers down to the rescheduling of the race earlier and away from William Shakespeare's birthday celebrations. That would be my only negative really. Otherwise excellent. Microchipping it next year would help, with a field of nearly 3000, but still fab. Date of review: May 8, 2006
In short: Brilliant day, blessed by excellent running weather! In full: Excellent day, and wasn't the weather kind!
The crowd were absolutely fantastic all the way around, picking up on t-shirt names and shouting out encouragement. Special thanks to the mad old gent blasting out music at the end of his drive and that mad hippy woman with the whistle following the course handing out jelly babies.
Nicely undulating course, I was worried about the hills, but there really was no need, I ran them all.
On the downside, price was very steep considering no race t-shirt, no isotonic drinks and water in cups not squeezy bottles. I got all this at Cardiff for the same price.
Anyway, aside from that, fabulous day, lovely part of the world to run in and would defo do it again! Date of review: May 8, 2006
In short: Well Organised. Nice scenery. Too pricy. In full: Although it was a pleasant run, I was a bit disappointed with my meal & banana at end. Other events which cost a lot less than this provide isotonic drinks, malt loaf, cereal bars etc. I was expecting more than a banana for the high price I had paid for my entry. In short: I thought this was a good easy race adn would certainly do it again (especially as I got a PB). The one thing I think they should look at though is closing some of the roads. At times it felt like I was being chased by some cars! Date of review: May 8, 2006
