In short: Very wet but worth it all the same In full: I was dreading the wind, but actually it was the rain that nearly (nearly) killed me. After getting power-showed soaked, I was freezing during the second half of the race, but the route was nice and flat and in good condition, which helped. Big thanks to all the spectators (who stayed despite the rain) and the organisers. And the bakers - the cake was great! Date of review: November 16, 2010
In short: Fast wet fast In full: Slight confusion with registration, originally due to be in the park but due to waterlogged ground this was moved to a nice marquee on the promenade, catching out a few people who had run this event before.
It rained - quite heavily. I didn't fall going down the ramp to the seafront but was on my knees on the 4th lap going up it.
Took 6 minutes off PB.
There was cake at the end. And chocolate coins - although failing to mention this point to my gluten free, wet, hungry and non cake eating wife went down about as well as telling her that I had left her raincoat back at the hotel before the start of the race.
Might have enjoyed it more if the sun had turned out and I wasn't suffering from a throat infection.
Hats off to the marshals though who stayed out in the rain for hours waiting for the final finishers, Mark and Robert, well done for sticking with it and finishing.
In short: Loved the race!!! In full: Fantastic organisation, and easy to collect numbers and chips on the day. I found this less hassle than being posted the number etc.
Really enjoyed doing four laps which after 2-3 meant I was lapping people and that was a real motivation. Got a PB which without the rain I think I could improve on next year.
Also the laps meant you always saw slower runners going the other way and I made the whole event dynamic. With single lap half marathons you find your position early on and then very often never pass anyone else again. I enjoyed the feeling of being really involved.
I am always impressed with the organisation of the Bexhill events after having done numerous 10ks, this half marathon is now a regular on my schedule.
Thanks to all the organisers and marshalls... Date of review: November 16, 2010
In short: Brilliantly organised, great value race In full: Superbly organised race, very friendly marshals (With some stamina, staying friendly in such pouring rain!!!) The medal is great and the cakes were excellent. It was my only 'flat' half-marathon this year, so a definite season's best (actually, best time for 25 years!) After the run, I got very cold very quickly, nothing to do with the race organisation of course, but if you're going to do a half marathon in November, you need to be ready for that(!) Despite the weather, thanks to all the organisers and helpers for a great day. Date of review: November 15, 2010
In short: Worth doing just for the cakes!!! In full: MY first time doing this event, the organisation was very professional and everything worked well. Was nice not to be kept waiting around to start. The marshalls were very friendly and I would like to say a big thank you for standing out there in that horrible rain. This is a fast and flat course but being next to the sea is at the mercy of the elements. The medal and the lovely cakes at the end made for a nice touch. See you next year!!! In short: Very well organised race with upbeat marshalls a great medal and brill snacks. Very Wet though! In full: The Bexhill Runners know what they're doing it has to be said. This is a well marshalled, brilliantly organised event. Everything from the website to the medals and T-shirt are top notch. The split time announcements were encouraging. My only beef is that, and this is very subjective, I don't really like multiple lap races - and 4 laps is 1-2 too many laps for me. Its just the way my minds works - its the same when I train. Despite the flatness of the course I was over 5 mins off my PB, but I put this down to carrying an Olympic swimming pools worth of rainwater with me for most of the race. All in all a great day for a good cause. Date of review: November 15, 2010
In short: A small race with a great seaside backdrop. Brilliant organisation and homemade cakes for runners at the end. In full: This is a great race. Well organised, only about 500 participants so it's not too busy. The run along the sea is very picturesque, although was very wet yesterday. I was so waterlogged and cold by the end of it but ran a great PB so it was enjoyable overall. Loved the community feel and the cakes, tea and bacon roll at the end were genius. In short: Very well organised, flat course, amazing cakes! In full: A very well organised event, and the marshals were superb. The guy on the tannoy did a great job - hearing your lap splits being called out was really motivating. A fast, flat course and a strong field with about a fifth of the runners under 1:40. The rain was very heavy, but the winds stayed down, so no complaints at all. The quality of the cakes at the end made all the pain worthwhile! Date of review: November 15, 2010
In short: An excellent event! In full: Well organised. Wonderfully encouraging marshals. Good value, with great t-shirt and medal. Sweets en route and cakes at the end were much appreciated. The course was pretty good too. Not much could be done about the shocking weather. The last half I did was Run to the Beat which was terrible on every count so it was great to be reassured that there are lots of really fantastic races to take part in.. well done Bexhill. Well worth the drive from London. Date of review: November 15, 2010
