In short: must remember suncream next time!!! In full: I have to say that in the end I LOVED this race. It was only my second ever Marathon and being someone who doesn't usually run on my own I did find it a struggle and was ready to pull out before half way even arrived. However I met a lovely man called Peter who assured me I could do it and carry on - and so I took the left turn for the second loop instead of the right turn to go home and carry on I did. The cenery was incredible, the marashals were wonderful - every single one of them stood up as soon as they saw us to point us in the right direction even on the second loop and they were all full of words of encouragement. The sponges at the water stations were an excellent idea as were the own bottle stations i wish every race did that. I was one of the last runners to come in at 5:51 but still had everyone to cheer me in and the commentator loved my sprint finish - I have decided that if I had that left in me at the end I didn't work hard enough so am going to go back next year to do this one again and beat my time - I know it isn't fast for most people but I will work my way down the times eventually and would like to thank everyone I spoke to along the way for their support and encouragement. In short: The perfect marathon In full: My second run at Halstead, and it's just as great a race as I remember from last year. I echo all the positive comments that everyone else has made, about the amazing scenery, superb organisation, wonderful marshals and supporters, the personalised drinks, and I love this year's medal! Also a note to say how friendly I find this race - I've never run anywhere where so many people chat to each other out on the course, just loved it. Will be back next year and hope that nothing changes. Date of review: May 14, 2012
In short: This is how they should be done... In full: Wow... What can I say, superb race, challenging course with "undulations" superb organisation (water stations, baggage store, showers, excellent support, sweeties, locals, this is how they should be done. Some of the BIG race should come to Halstead to see how it's done... AND cheap as chips (less than pound a mile, they'll put the p[rice up now LOL!!!)... And a PB!! Well done everyone and look forward to next time... Date of review: May 14, 2012
In short: friendly, well-organised and scenic In full: The attention to detail is wonderful in this race. I particularly love being able to bring your own drinks which they deliver to drinks stations of your choice on the route (they provide water and orange squash as well). You also get to choose your size t-shirt at the end. The route is marshalled by bike riders who clear up the rubbish, gee you up if you're flagging and check all is running well. As for the scenery, it runs through country lanes so you are treated to cocks crowing, horses and lambs in fields to distract you whilst you run. Admittedly on the second lap I was needing distraction... this course is what I would call undulating, a bit hilly in places but don't let that put you off. If you are looking for a first marathon this is great. Plus the medal is really nice too. Thanks Halstead Road Runners for another great race. Date of review: May 14, 2012
In short: Lovely, tough race In full: Excellent race that was tough in places. Excellent marshalling, especially the part where runners were going in both directions and so were the cars! That looked difficult for the marshals, especially with the impatient drivers.
Lovely day helped the atmosphere. Date of review: May 14, 2012
In short: Hard due to "undulations" but a great day out. Highly recommended In full: Supurb organisation, a wonderful course through winding country lanes and great crowd support makes this race one of the best. Nice medal, t-shirt and goody bag. Well done HRR I hope to be back next year. Date of review: May 14, 2012
In short: Race for runners organised by runners.First Class. In full: Really great atmosphere. Lots of support from marshals , spectators and fellow runners. Not the easiest of courses but fair and manageable, so is a good event for first timers who will have a great experience. Medal is thoughtful and special and goody bag contents just what you need at the end of a race. Date of review: May 14, 2012
In short: Best marathon EVER In full: Loved every moment of this event. my legs are killing me, my head sun burnt, but it was worth it. my first ever marathon, and i managed to cross the line at 3:42, chuffed to bits.
The organisation on the day was amazing, the marshalls were outstanding and really helpful, the crowds were fantastic and the drinks stations were brilliant.
The hills were harder than i expected, but then whole setting more than made up for it.
Loved it, loved it, loved it. will be back next year for sure. Date of review: May 14, 2012
