In short: friendly, well-organised and scenic
In full: The attention to detail is wonderful in this race. I particularly love being able to bring your own drinks which they deliver to drinks stations of your choice on the route (they provide water and orange squash as well). You also get to choose your size t-shirt at the end. The route is marshalled by bike riders who clear up the rubbish, gee you up if you're flagging and check all is running well.
As for the scenery, it runs through country lanes so you are treated to cocks crowing, horses and lambs in fields to distract you whilst you run. Admittedly on the second lap I was needing distraction... this course is what I would call undulating, a bit hilly in places but don't let that put you off. If you are looking for a first marathon this is great. Plus the medal is really nice too.
Thanks Halstead Road Runners for another great race.

In short: Lovely, tough race
In full: Excellent race that was tough in places. Excellent marshalling, especially the part where runners were going in both directions and so were the cars! That looked difficult for the marshals, especially with the impatient drivers.

Lovely day helped the atmosphere.

In short: Hard due to "undulations" but a great day out. Highly recommended
In full: Supurb organisation, a wonderful course through winding country lanes and great crowd support makes this race one of the best. Nice medal, t-shirt and goody bag. Well done HRR I hope to be back next year.

In short: Race for runners organised by runners.First Class.
In full: Really great atmosphere. Lots of support from marshals , spectators and fellow runners. Not the easiest of courses but fair and manageable, so is a good event for first timers who will have a great experience. Medal is thoughtful and special and goody bag contents just what you need at the end of a race.

In short: Best marathon EVER
In full: Loved every moment of this event. my legs are killing me, my head sun burnt, but it was worth it. my first ever marathon, and i managed to cross the line at 3:42, chuffed to bits.

The organisation on the day was amazing, the marshalls were outstanding and really helpful, the crowds were fantastic and the drinks stations were brilliant.

The hills were harder than i expected, but then whole setting more than made up for it.

Loved it, loved it, loved it. will be back next year for sure.

In short: Fantastic Challenge Marathon
In full: My 4th Marathon and 1st Halstead. Good location for the start with plenty of toilets and space. There could have been some kind of band/music or entertainment around the start finish area at the start and the finish. The course is very scenic visiting some glorious Essex villages. This was well marshalled throughout, the drinks on course worked well, although, please please please please can we have water in bottles rather than half filled plastic cups which are impossible to drink from. Excellent medal, well done HRR very proud to be a part of the club
