In short: Fantastic Atmosphere - not to be missed!
In full: The atmosphere and support along the way are fantastic. The scenery at the start and finish with the red arrows, tyne bridge, sea front etc are brilliant. The Gateshead section is a little rough round the egdes! Don't do it aiming for a PB, do it for the experience and you won't be disapointed I promise!

In short: Brilliant atmosphere but tooooooo many people to be enjoyable
In full: This was my first half marathon and it's an excellent event for first timers. Organisation was as smooth as it comes, start, marshalling, drinks stations & finish were exemplary. Crowd gave it a buzz like you couldn't imagine.

However, far too many people for any kind of comfort. No problem at the start as this was great (aparently a vast improvement on previous years) but very very crowded all the way through especially where the course narrowed to accommodate change of direction/roundabouts etc. I found this very hard to cope with and felt almost claustrophobic at times.

Think it would be better half the size and I don't think it would change the atmosphere at all.

In short: A great experience not to be missed
In full: I really enjoyed doing this race, it was a great experience. It was the biggest race I have ever entered and I loved the crowds, bands and the atmosphere. It was lovely to have local people handing out sweets and water along the way. I would definitely do this race again, but would save my personal best attempts for smaller events, as there were so many people infront it wasn't possible to run at a fast pace. For people doing the race in future, my advice would be to get there early, because trying to sqeeze through 50000 people to get your bag on the bus is like a half marathon in itself!
