In short: Fantastic event & well organised In full: The first half was great, if a little hilly but loved the course in and around the city. The second half was less interesting and made mentally harder by the switchbacks at the water centre, however the motivation team at mile 19 were brilliant and encouraging. Agree with other comments re the canal path and avoiding cyclists, pushchairs etc. some people seemed oblivious that there was a race going on! The finish area was very well organised with people waiting to help. Also the kit tent staff were very friendly & efficient retrieving bags quickly, the kit tents themselves were equipped with male & female changing areas - a lot of thought had gone into providing facilities for runners. Excellent! Date of review: September 14, 2010

In short: Hot, hilly but well organised and fun. In full: First time I've run the Robin Hood for 14 years and really enjoyed the day though I'm sure the half route is more hilly than it used to be! Well marshalled; great drink staions, enjoable as ever and I will definitely return next year. Date of review: September 14, 2010

In short: Another enjoyable day in Nottingham In full: Ran the full last year, and it seemed shorter somehow this year, even if I was 20 mins slower!
It works really well for me, whilst it is a busy field in the first few miles, it stops me going out to quick. After that, found it wasnt an issue, but agree the focus is on the half. Found the second half tough work, but had training issues, so to be expected.
The whole event though is fantastic - parking is great (and for those doing the full, everyone has gone home by the time you finished!)well organised, loads of drink stations, great marshalls, and the paramedics were extremely good, if a little busy. Even the finish line crew were pleased to see me after nearly 5 hours of standing around!!!
I will be back to crack the lake one day..... Date of review: September 14, 2010

In short: An excellent event, as it seems to be every year. In full: I've always liked the Robin Hood, enough people to have a good atmosphere about it, not so many that it becomes chaotic before, during and after. I like the new course, nice stretches through the University and Wollaton Park, and good crowds...helped no doubt by it being a nice day for spectating. Like other earlier comments, I found mile 2 slightly long. I didn't think I was weaving unduly, though there were a couple of points where I chose not to cut a corner...perhaps this actually was the measured line! But not going to moan over .1 miles.
Well done and thanks to all the organisers and marshalls. Date of review: September 14, 2010

In short: Well organised, supported event but.... In full: Good organisation, plentiful water and lucozade (and gels after half way) but really I felt it was a big city half and relay with a full happening at same time. This means avoiding people walking in the first few miles, people running across you to see their mates and several pinch points as a large field negotiates gates and quite narrow paths. The half route was pretty undulating, the second half was flat but was more exposed and was quite breezy along the Trent and around the National Watersport Centre. I ran Kent Coastal this time last year (also breezy and with a half but a smaller field) and will find another full somewhere else in Sep 2011, so unlikely to return to Notts but each to their own. In short: A race of two halves - hilly scenic first section, flat and fast thereafter. Great organisation. In full: Despite a hot day, I thought this was a great race overall - extremely well organised, plentiful water and energy products, great marshalling and first aid support, etc.
The Marathon very much feels like a secondaty event to the Half however, with some lonely sections in the latter stages, and some long switchbacks through the National Watersports Centre - depending on your mood these could be quite dispiriting.
A couple of changes I would suggest: pacers for the Marathon as well as the Half - the combined start pens mean that it is easy to head off too quickly. Alternatively a phased start to the two races (as at Brussels) could work better for both runners and finish-line spectators.
Also there were a couple of spots on the course with very awkward routing - passing to the side of closed vehicle gates in Woolaton Park, and a ramp from canal towpath to road around Mile 14 that I wouldn't expect to find in such a major race. The section on the river path around Miles 22-24 where runners have to fight for space with cyclists and pushchairs was a bit 'unusual' too. Date of review: September 14, 2010
