In short: Very friendly, well organised and good route
In full: Is it or isn'y it hilly? According to my Garmin GPS there was 712ft (217m) of climbing so yes there was hills but they weren't over steep or too long. Most of the climbing was over with after the first 5 miles. It is a really good course with a nice mixture of city and countryside. Well supported considering the weather. It was well organised because everything that was planned to happen did happen. I understand the challenges with the narrow entrance to the castle for this quite large race therefore you can't have everyone turning up with 10 minutes to go and crushing in. The start was excellent, as soon as you got out the castle the route widened really quickly, this meant you could get up to speed after only a few hundred yards. Big thanks to the marshalls and people at the drink stations so often taken for granted. Overall I would recommend this to anyone as a fun, friendly race.

In short: Hillier than I expected but an improved course
In full: Last did this in 2006 so the hills surprised me - most of the first 6 miles appeared to be uphill! Despite this I prefrred the new route with much less running alongside busy roads. There was Lucozade left at water stations, which is good as often there isn't by the time backmarkers like me get through. Good encouraging marshalls, who remained cheery despite the hideous weather. Legs felt like lead for last 4 miles but still enjoyed it. I had my doubt about the new organisation but I'm glad to say I was wrong.

In short: Very well organised. Undulating. Good mix of scenery. Best goody bag I've had-technical t shirt is much better than cottod
In full: Very well organised. Certainly undulating by non-Cumbrian standards.. Good mix of scenery. Best goody bag I've had-technical t shirt is much better than cotton, & bananas better than yukky cereal bars. Start in castle & finish in stadium were great. Was blustery & showery which made for quite difficult running.

In short: Hypothermia, then hilly, but nice race
In full: Good parking and well-organised chip pick-up. Organisers couldn't fix weather, which spoilt waiting at the start. Just as well temp was ok-ish otherwise most would have been hypothermic.
Run itself was well-marshalled and signed. Don't believe all the rubbish about it being flat, but at least there are downhills too.Definitely not PB run.
Nice technical NB T-shirt and showers at Sands Centre. Will do it again, but you need a bin-bag.

In short: Good flat course with good support around it. A really good race
In full: A popular race because the course is pretty flat. It was also very well organised and setting off from the castle was a nice touch. A bit slow this year because of the weather but definitely will do it again.

In short: Well worth a trip across the border
In full: Very good race though missed out on goody bag. Did get the medal, technical t-shirt(hurrah not cotton!) & lucozade en-route so I'll forgive them that. A bit hillier than expected but not too daunting & mix of town & countryside kept up the interest factor. Good size of race not too intimidating for a non-club runner with some encouraging crowd support along the way. Will definitely do this one again.
