In short: BRrrrrrr!!! Wish I had worn my gloves....
In full: Another cold morning, but then I guess we should be used to it now in Britain. At least it wasn't raining..... Kept on waiting for the so called big climb & it never really seemed to come?? As many others say the distance markers were very confusing. You pass one that says one mile to go. Then 500 yds later one that says 7 miles.... If it was supposed to be 8 miles how does that work?? The run into Loseley house could of perphaps done with markers telling you how many meters to go this way those of us who have a sprint finish in us would be a bit better warned. A few minor adjustments could have a huge impact on the success of this race. But thank you anyway to the organisers and the speedy availibilty of provisional results.

In short: Poorly organised race with a rubbish medal and a long walk back to the car
In full: The 49th Hogs Back race completed my first year of racing, and it was by a huge margin the worst race I've run. The car park was quite a way from the start, there were nowhere near enough toilets at the start, and we nearly missed the start as a result. One of the roads, although marshalled, seemed dangerous, with big lorries trying to pass runners on a narrow main road. The mile markers were awful. Not only were they not prominent, but they just didn't seem accurate at all. The official distance states "just over 8 miles", but it seems like it was slightly less than 8, given that the "1 mile to go" marker was before the "7 miles gone" marker. The medal at the end was the worst I have received, and then there's a mile walk back to the car park at the end of the race, and this walk is along the end of the course, so you are hindering other finishers.
The only positive I can give this race is that the Hog's Back itself is a great challenge to run up, it is a pretty stern hill.
I won't be back.

In short: Average race, same old crappy medal at the finish
In full: Each year, this race looks a little more tired than the last. Same course, same start, same finish, same mile markers in the wrong places, Still no accurate measurements. No PA at the finish this year. No goody bag, just water at the finish, Can't be bothered even to put the date on the cheap medal. Maybe this is just a fund-raiser for GGAC?

In short: Great training for the jump after 10k!
In full: If one needed to jump from a 10k to something longer, what a great way. The hill onto the hogs back is just about a mile of rising dips, its not that bad! With the bonus of a long speedy cruise downhill afterwards! The flat road straights between 5.5-7miles really helped to pick up speed and pace, with a cheeky little hill at the end.
Was my second time running and still forgot how far the finish is from entering Losely house!

In short: Fog on the line, it's all mine all mine...
In full: Second time out and enjoyed it once again - well, at least the second half!! Cold foggy start but soon got warmed up by the incline... something needs to be done about the finish & return to car park arrangements, too many people obstructing the slower runners

In short: Foggy frolics on the Hogs Back.
In full: A bit of a chilly start to say the least and foggy enough to slow the cars down, which was nice. As said before, quite a challenging run up and over the Hogs Back, made more challenging due to my first time running this event and was unsure how far it was to go until the end. The mile marking was fine and the nice touch was that from 2 miles to go the sign said, '2 miles to go', which clearly meant that the mileage was nearer 12K than 8 1/4 miles, so did not know when to begin my sprint finish. If the course is left unchanged, I'll know next time when to speed things up I guess. The run-in to Loseley House was longer than I thought, but still just managed to break the hour, which was nice!..

In short: Great day out
In full: Very cold morning. but throughly enjoyed my first time at my 'home' race. The bag drop was great. Minor negatives: Many more toilets needed, more consideration to incoming runners needed by people leaving Loseley House and also advertised somewhere as 8.25 miles. I made it 7.88 on the Garmin.
