In short: Not too crowded an inspiring place with encouraging marshals. In full: There are some hills but they go down as well as up so not to be feared unless you are Dutch. Date of review: May 21, 2012
In short: Love this event! could not be more beautiful In full: Amazing event with the most beautiful scenery you could wish for. Not an easy course but still faster than London or NY (for me) great support and a fantastic finish with lots to do at the family fun day. Date of review: May 21, 2012
In short: A race you'll remember long after the aches and pains have gone In full: Organisation is second to none. The marshalls are friendly, the people at the drinks stations are encouraging, as are the spectators around the course, but particularly at the finish. The weather was excellent (how did they manage that ?). The other runners were friendly. The runners doing their 10th and final marathon with us in 10 days were just amazing. It's not a PB course but it's certainly on of the best races you'll ever do. Date of review: May 21, 2012
In short: One race everyone should enter. In full: The summary says it all, you have to give this race a go. It has everything, wonderful organisation, friendly people, the wonderful views of lakeland, closed roads and the inspirational 10-in-10ers.
My only tip to the first timers (as I was in 2011) is listen to the other posters/training guides and hold something back for the final inclines. I got carried away at halfway and at mile 20 I was reduced to a shuffling obstacle to the other runners!! Steer clear of the pitfalls and this will be the perfect race. In short: Amazingly beautiful run, not for the faint-hearted! In full: For my first marathon, it was exactly what I wanted. I've done long runs before, so I didn't want a flat easy course, I wanted a challenge, and the hills certainly were that! Like I said above, it's not for the faint-hearted, so if you're looking at a first time marathon, and want to ease yourself into them, this is not for you. However, the scenery and views, especially over the hill just after mile 16, make this a must-run for anybody physically able. Date of review: May 31, 2011
In short: Brings new meaning to hilly! In full: Fantastic marathon that was superbly organised but it was my first marathon in over 8 years, and I only started running again in January so challenging was an understatement. But it was fantastic and I feel I may now be addicted to Kendal mint cake!!
The 10 in 10ers was amazing and an inspiration.... maybe one day! Date of review: May 27, 2011
