In short: Superbly organised - sets the standard for trail runs In full: I've never run such a well-organised event with detailed maps and instructions at the start, plus plenty of direction indicators and water stops. Despite the lack of big hills, it was still tough, partly due to the rough terrain. Date of review: August 15, 2011
In short: excellent event In full: I really enjoy this event. It was my third one and the second ultra in salisbury for me. With various distances this is made for everyone. Great scenery, aid stations and organisation. A big thank you to all the helpers. Changing facilities great with use of the leisure centre. It would be good to see the fire service provide their own catering at the start/finish next year making more money for a good cause. Chip times also great. Thanks, Ben. In short: Fantastic 50k In full: If you love running through a variety of scenic countryside with a bit of everything thrown in from forest to castles to camels (yes, camels!) this is the one to do. The 50k was lovely. I will definitely recommend it. Date of review: August 14, 2011
In short: Great Race with something for all abilities In full: I ran the 50K and thoroughly enjoyed it. Regular water stations, and I particularly enjoyed the way the 50K runners also joined the route with the 42K, 30K, and 20K runners.
The downside is that the route goes through the city at the end - crossing busy roads wasn't enjoyable...
All in all - a great run with some lovely hills (not too hard) and some great scenery. Date of review: August 14, 2011
In short: Something for everyone. Choice of several distances, walk or run, some busy roads, but mostly quiet roads or pleasant country trails. In full: I did the '20-km' event, although I think it was somewhat more than 20 km (12.5 miles); in fact, I reckon it was just over a half-marathon also (I made it 13.5 mi). As I paced myself to finish at 12.5 miles and was only passing the Cathedral at that point, I had a fairly arduous last mile! I should have been more prepared for something like, as I did think, on looking at the map of all the routes sent to me a week before, that, 'there's no way all of those routes can all have been arranged to be exactly the required distance.' I suppose some people might feel a bit let down by that, but overall I still had a great day and that's the only criticism I've got - perhaps a note about actual distances in the otherwise very good pre-race info would have been a good idea?
I intend coming back next year for one or other of the races on offer. Great event for all the family. Date of review: August 14, 2011
In short: Well run muliple event, no real faults, stunning scenery, hills that make you ache, and dont expect a PB, thats for the 30K anyway which on the garmin was 19.39m.... a good trg run Date of review: August 14, 2011
In full: This was a fab event. I did the 42k and don't think I went into it giving it the respect it deserved. Was still recovering from Jack and Jill Ultra 2 weeks prior and was rather gob smacked at how tough this was !! Clearly my mistake. Extremely well organised when getting numbers, chip band thingy. Very friendly. Marshalls also friendly and lovely goodies to be had at stops. Some folk had said about the dodgy finish, weaving your way around tourists at cathedral...but I loved it. A run to respect...and I think i will do it again next year but maybe not so soon after an ultra. Date of review: August 23, 2010
In short: Great race In full: Did the 50k. A few signs missing towards the end. Water stations weren't set up by the time I got there - so went past 3 without taking any water. Distance was certainly short; by how much depends on which route you took. I had a cyclist marshall to show me the way - but I know that others behind didn't have that luxury, and some ran a shorter route from Wilton into Salisbury than the planned one. All in all, a good race, given that it was the first running of the 50k. Improvements might include: water stations ready for the "faster" runners, "Emergency" signs carried by the cycling marshalls to replace missing ones, and a slightly more accurate route distance. Thanks. Date of review: August 18, 2010
