In short: First Marathon - nice views In full: First time running a marathon. Nice course clearly marked, very welcome jelly babies at the water stops!
However no goody bags at the finish, just the t shirt, poor location poorly sign posted. The showers were freezing (an incentive to run faster!!)
All in all, very friendly atmosphere, nicely organised but a little room for improvement.
Thanks to all the organisers and friendly marshalls Date of review: October 5, 2009

In short: Where was the mud! In full: Thanks Paul for another great event. My first time doing the half (relay previously) its great running through the crowds at the relay change over point. I really would have liked some mud though! Just need to return again as I know I can do a better time. Date of review: October 5, 2009

In short: One of the easier trail marathons, well organised In full: Clockwork orginisation, scenic course. If I have a gripe its that starting the 1/2 marathon 1 hour 45 minutes after the start of the full marathon means that marathon runners run straight into the back of the 1/2M pack on a some very narrow sections where overtaking is dificult. Its aminor gripe because I was out a for a days run not a PB but would annoy if actually racing. marshalling and course markings were exellcent, jelly babies at all aid stations. In short: Brilliant Event Again In full: Hi folks, Alistair from Wells calling in again, celebrating my sixth run (i.e. since 2004) on the long course, after my inaugural attempt at the half distance in ’03.
And once again, a superb event. Everything is well sorted now – drinks stations all well organised, and as others have noted, it’s quite uplifting to run through the crowds at the relay points. Certainly at my 4hr 20min pace at the end, I just walked through T shirt and bag collection, then straight onto the bus. Managed a couple of minutes faster this year than last, though probably because of the superb, dry conditions as much as my fitness. One thing that slightly bothers me is that when the course ran in the opposite direction, I usually managed just over 4 hours – since it’s been reversed, you can add 20 minutes to that. I can’t believe the course direction makes much difference despite having Farley Mount at 20 miles rather than six – guess I’ve just hit another plateau of mediocrity. Well, I am 51, used to do a marathon around 3 hrs 10. Oh well!
So thanks again Paul and team, keep ‘em coming, can’t imagine how you could improve this great, scenic, hard but not-too-hard if you get my meaning, wonderful event.

In short: An excellent half-marathon, well organised and a hard challenge In full: This was my first time at the Clarendon, and I thoroughly enjoyed the event. Excellent parking/transport and facilities at Broughton made it a easy start, the only issue for me being the 12 o'clock start, to accommodate the marathon start. I would rather start that bit earlier, but that's a minor gripe. There were plenty of water stations along the route, and I gather we were lucky this year with virtually no mud. The mile markers seemed to be at entirely random distances, with me running a 17 minute mile between 8 and 7 to go, and then a 6 minute mile between 6 and 5, and my wife reports that GPS users found them laughable too. Having the marathon runners 'join in' was interesting and it certainly meant that I was with other runners all the way. Overall an excellently organised event, tough hills, not particularly steep, but some of them seemed to go on or ever. Hopefully be back next year to do the other half... In short: Beautiful introduction to off road rrunning 4 a confirmed tarmac junkie In full: LOVED IT!! I very rarely train off road and even less so compete off it but I loved this race. It probably helped that the rain free weather these past few weeks had rendered the paths concrete like but it was just a fantastic race all in all. No major hiccups with organisation (although rarely anybody was able to answer any simple question about buses / t - shirts etc withouth asking a further chain of 3 or 4) but I'd certainly be back for more. Pity that the buses left before the presentation as I'd have loved to pick up my trophy.
thanks for a lovely race Date of review: October 5, 2009

In short: Lovely marathon - highly recommended In full: I loved the course and think this would be a good one as an introduction to long distance off road running. The hills weren't impossible but tough enough! The relay looked like great fun. Scenery was beautiful - just wish I had remembered to stop and look at it more often! The marshalls were fantastic, lots of drink stations with squash and jelly babies too, organised transport and parking was good. Thank you - I'll be back! Date of review: October 5, 2009
