In short: HQ too far from start and even further from finish. A bit exposed In full: The course is much better than last year's, but in achieving this, the start and finish were too far away from the race HQ. You needed to either move your car about or be prepared to do an extra 2 - 3 miles outside the race, depending on where you parked. A bit exposed in places. Date of review: November 18, 2007
In short: Good course but pity about distance from HQ to start and finish. In full: Well-chosen course with enough ups and downs and mixture of surfaces. Bit of a trek to and from HQ, but well worth it at the end for the superb choice of home-made cakes. Date of review: November 18, 2007
In short: Too damn cold for that walk back to warm clothes at the finish! In full: A bit of a distance to the start is no problem, but you really don't want it at the end when it's sooooo cold. (Plus I parked my car as far away again on the other side of the HQ.)
The organisers were great, though, and the marshals deserve a medal for their encouragement on such a cold day.
Whatw as that someone said about cake? Must have missed that! Date of review: November 18, 2007
In short: Trying to get some positives.............. Marshalls were excellent. Thankyou! r. In full: Hope the organisers can get the start, finish and HQ together for next year, I will be looking closely.
Could not find the start to begin with. Hard to park near HQ and a really long way back when your cold.
However the Marshalls were great. The course challenging but manageable and I got a personal best.
In short: Much improved course from last year In full: Much much better than last years course which we would not have done again. However we would only be likely to return next year if the car parking/ race HQ and start/ finish were brought nearer together. Not much fun waiting at the end for my slower partner in the cold. Nice T-shirt as usual. Date of review: November 18, 2007
In short: poor start and finish set up, hilly and uneven ground In full: I agree very much with what the last person has written. Good distance and views, but challenging due to the hills and diffcult under foot in most places due to the uneven ground.
Agreed T-shirts are nice, but walk to start and from finish is too long when you've just tackled a hilly 10 miles and it's cold!!! - this needs some serious consideration.
Also no toilets at the start which is a mile walk from HQ!.
It is unlikely I would do this again, mainly due to the walk at the start and finish.
Agreed marshalls were very supportive and huge thanks to you all :-) Date of review: November 18, 2007
In short: Not impressed In full: I have run 16 races now and this is the worst one i have encountered. Race HQ at one area, car park in a second and the start line in a 3rd (with nice long walk back to the car park). The email with info in it wound up in many spam boxes, not really sure why the numbers werent mailed out. I entered 4 races online at once including this one a few weeks ago and the other numbers arrived in plenty of time (including last weekends number). Trying to save money perhaps?
Race HQ was not very well signposted and perhaps it would be a good idea to send a marshall to the rugby club in future to guide people to the HQ and also to the start, there were a LOT of confused runners up there.
The race began without a hooter or gun, a small s in the road marked the startline and was missed by a few people who i ran near who asked me if we had started yet!
The route itself was ok, not particularly flat but no major gripes. The marshalls were excellent and very encouraging, they deserve everyones thanks for standing out there on a cold day. Mile markers at every mile a plus (and accurate)
I didnt spot any water at the finish but there must have been some somewhere. The T-Shirt is very nice.
By way of an afterthought, would it not be possible to use the rugby club hall as a race HQ in future and start/finish the race from there too?
If these were improved on i would return, if this year setup was in use for 2008 i for one would not return. Hope it doesnt sound too whiny, just my thoughts. Date of review: November 18, 2007
In short: Definitely undulating but a nice scenic course In full: Enjoyed the race today, the country lanes made a nice change to the usual Stortford suburbs! It was a bit of a trek to the start and back from the finish, but didn't really bother me. It is a shame however that the race didnt get a certificate, as my club are not recognising PBs as it is not a certificated course. If Stortford could find a 10 mile route in a similar area that missed out the cross-country section then that would be ideal. I didnt mind the off-road bits at all, its just a shame that that means the race doesnt get a certificate. Date of review: November 18, 2007
In short: long hills and bitter winds made this a tough one for me In full: Main moan was the distance from the H/Q to the start, but more so from the finish back to car park. This only my second 10 miles - course o.k. if for me a bit tough because of hills. However I got very cold and shivery on the journey back to car maybe more experienced runners don't suffer like this. Date of review: November 18, 2007
