In short: Great race In full: What a lovely way to spend a Sunday moring! Thank you to Denbies, Dorking and Mole Valley AC, Run to live and all the marshals for making it such a fun morning out. Date of review: April 11, 2010
In short: Tough race, with excellent scenery In full: Excellent course with a couple of tough hills. The course was well marked and on course marshalls were very encouraging. They had run out of water when I finished. My tip for next year would be to make sure you have enough fluid at the end and after 10 miles a banana/Mars bar/packet of crisps would hit the spot. In short: nearly perfect! In full: wow, that was a great run! the organisation en route was fantastic, marshalls really encouraging. However, the end left such a bad taste. I was in the last 15% & by the time I crossed the line only large t-shirts were left (were there medals??), goodie bags had run out (how is that possible....they know how many people are running!!) & water was running short. I had to pay £1.69 for small bottle of water. Treating the less competative runners like second class citizens is elitist & shabby Date of review: April 11, 2010
In full: Had a great day, all went smoothly and ran a better time than expected, considering some challenging hills along the way.A big thank you to the organisers for all their hard work! Date of review: April 11, 2010
In full: This has to be one of the hardest races I have done, would mot come back again for this, but might try the 5K instead, I was one of the last to finish, to me it felt far more than 10 miles!! Thank you to all the marshalls who were very friendly and encouraging, it really helps when your struggling, have to say I preferred last years 10K race. Date of review: April 11, 2010
In short: Good training run, but woeful organisation In full: Good hills, nice terrain, but the bad organisation really put a damper on this race. They ran out of T-Shirts sizes that weren't large and of water at the end of the race. For 19 quid, even for charity, that's woeful. There are many other trail races in Surrey that are a lot better organised for a cheaper price. The race is a good idea, just not well pulled off. Date of review: April 11, 2010
In short: Challenging 10-miler over the beautiful Surrey Hills In full: An excellent race, but pretty challenging, with long (although mainly runnable) hills at the start and at the halfway point. The latter gets very steep just before the end and forces most of the field to a walk. The compensation is the great views you get from the tops of course; and the setting of the start and finish amidst the vines of Denbies (the largest vineyard in England) gives a picturesque touch of the continent - well on a sunny day like today anyway.
Most of the race is on wideish trails with a solid, chalky surface so you can hit a good rhythm and pass people without getting stuck in quagmire or having to duck into the nettles every few yards.
A minor downside was that I (and many others armed with GPS watches, judging by the timing of their mile "bleeps") made this course come out about a quarter of a mile short. Which is great for a quick time I suppose if your conscience is OK with that! If they get this right next time it could become a classic. Date of review: April 11, 2010
In short: Lovely setting - definitely 'challenging'! In full: As others have said, the organisation was quite relaxed - very friendly though and very impressive how quickly the results went up! There are some very unforgiving hills in some very unforgiving places (right at the beginning when you're trying to get into your stride and right at the end when you don't have that much left in the tank) but I'll certainly be back next year, just to get my own back on it!!! Well done the 10 milers, don't quite know how you did it! Date of review: April 11, 2010
