In short: Mainly road/pavements with light traffic. Long downhill at 3km and long uphill at 5km reduces PB potential. In full: Second time of running this race. Course was improved to avoid running on the common for the last 1km (which gets very muddy and waterlogged). Good number of marshals but it would have been nice for organisers to have learned that an open sided gazebo with a plastic sheet covering some of the ground is not sufficient for baggage storage when it's pouring down with rain! In full: Not well prepared for bad weather. Only a few gazebos for shelter and nowhere dry to store bags/clothes. Route isn't bad - through suburban streets - but not that stunning either. Killer hill at 5km Date of review: February 28, 2010
In short: Great run in horrible weather In full: Good course and Marshalls were great in the wet weather especially the man at 8km who really spurred the runners on for the last 10mins-thank you! Although looking like a drowned rat I ran a PB, the hill at 5km just needs a bit of digging in and then it's flat till the end!
In full: The description of the race profile as "flat" was grossly mendacious. I have often raced in Wimbledon over distances form 10K to half marathon and know it to be very hilly, but it would be possible to have a flat 10K race with a route twice round the common and this description lead me to enter as I wanted to evaluate my performance level on a flat course. This course was hopeless for that. The organisers should have been frank. In addition timings weren't helped by the fact that the last three-quarters of a mile were run on the Common paths which in the aftermath of a very stormy Saturday were water-sodden, muddy and, in parts, very slippery. A course adjustment to stick to roads, leaving just the final run-in of some 80 metres on grass would make more sense in future years Date of review: November 17, 2009
