In short: Well organised and a lovely scenic route In full: A fantastic event, you get to run around the historic city of Chester and the beautiful surrounding area! Course is pretty flat, a good one for a PB. There are times when there's not much support as your running round the countryside, but your running round the countryside, its beautiful! When you hit the small towns I swear everyone is out to support also the last few miles when you come back into Chester is awesome everyone cheering you on shouting out your name!
its easy to get to, the parking is great as your at the racecourse. The aid stations are well stocked and the marshals round the course are superb, friendly, supportive and just generally awesome! Had a wonderful chat with one marshal just after I finished, his enthusiasm was endless.
Medal and goody bag are good, full of chocolate and this year an Ice-scraper?! A banana or an apple would have been nice.
I would really recommend this marathon, this was my first its ideal for beginners ad everyone else! I loved it!! Date of review: October 5, 2015
In short: Excellent first marathon In full: As my first marathon I was apprehensive (the hill profile did not look flat to me, and I'd done the "flat" chester half in 2014) but I really enjoyed it. Didn't even notice the undulations until mile 24! But even then they're completely doable even then with the amazing crowds and volunteers. 100% recommend this race, will definitely be doing it again! Date of review: October 5, 2015
In short: Absolutely seamless running event In full: It was my first 26, and although I did find it much harder than I'd imagined , the organisation from the very start helped me achieve a lifetime ambition. From the guy on the public address speaker , the superb bag drop, the friendly stewards , facilities , the water stations , to the hi5s off the kids lining the streets. Thank you all for a day I shall never forget. Date of review: October 5, 2015
In short: well organised, great atmosphere. superfast route In full: From the start it was clear that this is a well organised event. drinks, massage and bag drop off tents. the route is beautiful and mostly flat . I managed to beat my pb by over 20 minutes.there was brilliant support most of the way round especially the last mile back into Chester. Although I had no bag to collect, a kind young lady asked if she could fetch my bag which I thought was a real nice touch. I would recommend this marathon Date of review: October 5, 2015
In short: Absolutely fantastic event In full: This was my third marathon and it was a really super event. The organisation is top class. The event is hosted at Chester race course which is about as perfect as you could hope for. The course takes you through the city centre and then into Cheshire towards Wrexham where the scenery is beautiful. Course is pretty flat if undulating meaning it is a fast course. Definately worth a look for first timers to the experienced. Pretty sure i will be back Date of review: October 5, 2015
In short: Amazing and well organised race with a great atmosphere! In full: I've never written a review but I have to say I loved Chester Marathon! I've only done city marathons before so running in the countryside was amazing. First half seemed to have more gentle downhill and two bigger hills came in the second half. When you are running a marathon they feel like mountains. But if you pace yourself right the hills are manageable and pb is definitely very possible. There isn't support at every corner (because you are in the countryside) but often enough you'd pass through groups of people who would cheer you so loudly that it would make up for the quiet time. Excellent atmosphere, organisation, and this years' weather was also perfect. After reading other peoples' reviews I might have to also add that the merging of metric runners with marathon runners did annoy me a little bit. When you are at the latter stages of a marathon it's extremely hard to manouver around people and ask them to move. Occasionally the metric marathon runners would be in a line of 5 chatting to each other and there was no room to pass. Perhaps later start for the metric marathon could solve this like someone suggested? Anyhow I was very pleased with it all, and I would highly recommend this race! Also, if you plan on staying in Chester the night before, book well in advance. I left it too late with very little choice (and very expensive options) left. Date of review: October 5, 2015
