In short: 'jazz hands' all the way down hill in the woodlands :) smashing day In full: not my first half, but my first trail half. lovely scenery , brilliant hill and muddy meadows, cracking downhill, log leaping terrain in the woodlands. chatted to so many friendly runners out on course , superb crowd support, spectators cheering, marshals clapping, jelly babies on route and cakes and massage at the end :) what a brill morning. a few mins off my PB but loved every metre of each mile. deffo back next year to beat my course record Date of review: November 18, 2013
In short: Testing In full: This is my local race so I have to do it, even tho it's quite tough! Pretty, well organised, with a monster hill just after mile 6, and then a few climbs through woods, before you're back on the canal path. It's not a PB course but it is one I'll do again. Well organised with great marshals.
Just one tiny criticism, the new start in the school field didn't work so well, with the exit onto the canal path becoming a very slow bottle-neck. Date of review: November 18, 2013
In short: Terrific race for the flat and off road In full: On a classic autumn morning, but still vest weather, the race set out fast and flat along the canal - quickly finding a rhythm as the front runners snake out over the first 6 miles. Then a sharp right and cow dung was an indicator of the incline to come, a gradual then sharp shift upwards for a good mile; this was good after the even start. It reminded me of a roller coaster which grnds you up hill before throwing you down and left and right and down, down again! the mud was ok and not too slippy either - brilliant! The final 3 / 4 miles back along the canal tests the quads and glutes after being off road, but it was all faultless. Markings and marshalls and finish were seamless and a Big well Done to all at Dirt Half - thank you! Date of review: November 18, 2013
In short: Brilliant Trail Half Marathon In full: This race was a blast. After missing out on this race two years ago I was delighted to run it yesterday. It was a superb race. The first half is fast along the canal and then trail starts with the hills, woodland and fields This just saps the energy making, what should be a fast final two miles hurt. Then they chuck in a sneaky final 0.5 miles of trail to the finish line.
