In short: Can't believe running 20 miles can be this enjoyable! In full: Eveything about this race was excellent - from the fantastic ease of parking to the numerous water/gel stops, the cheery marshals, the scenic route, the superb medal, the good number of toilets, etc, etc.
Also, in terms of runner cameraderie , this was one the best races i've been in for some time - real uplifting stuff.
Before this i wondering how the hell i am going to struggle round London next month, but this event has me champing at the bit! Date of review: March 20, 2012
In short: Great event, fun but challenging and really well organised In full: Ran this last year and had to come back for more! Really good event, well organised, gels, sweets and drinks every few miles which was really welcome!!
A fun but challenging event, a really nice touch was the race director shaking your hand as you finish.
I recommend it to all! Date of review: March 19, 2012
In short: A big thankyou to all the runners from one of the volunteers In full: I would just like to thank all the runners that took part in the Tempest 10 and Spitfire 20 for their enthusiasm, spirit, cameraderie, appreciation and gratitude they expressed towards all of the marshals out on the course and volunteers at the finish line. I was one of the team removing the chips at the finish and can say that, without exception, every runner I helped thanked me, looked happy and proud with what they had achieved, no matter how tired and weary they were. It made volunteering at this event so worthwhile. Well done to you all, particularly those who had run the distance for the first time. Wishing all of you going on to compete in a marathon the best of luck. Date of review: March 19, 2012
In short: Lovely friendly race in a cool location In full: Really enjoyed this run (if you can 'enjoy' running 20 miles!). Easy to get to/park/pick up your number. Lots of loos, plenty of water/gel stops and a really nice atomosphere. Lovely touch to have the race director at the finish shaking hands!!! Also nice that there was different medals for the 10 and 20 mile runs, have been to many races where there are different distance runs and everyone gets the same medal. Fab day out :o) Date of review: March 19, 2012
In short: ideal preperation for spring marathon!!! In full: 2 years ago i did the Tempest and at the time set a pb;never did i think id ever come back for the Spitfire, let alone do it in what i consider to be a decent time.. The early part of the course has been changed (for the BETTER) and it has some challenging hills, but nothing that proper training cant prepare you for... the marshalls were BRILLIANT and i found there were enough drinks stations that gave u gels, drinks and jelly babies....
i will be back next year!!!! Date of review: March 19, 2012
In short: Very well run enjoyable event In full: A great race for marathon preparation. Was not looking forward to two laps but actually enjoyed it. Superb organisation and very friendly marshalls. Nice medal, easy parking and access, fair amount of loos. Everything that you look for in an event. Will definately be back. Date of review: March 19, 2012
In short: Brilliant pre marathon race In full: It's the first time like lots of other people there that i'd ventured over the 16 mile mark. Everyone was really encouraging and welcoming. It was good that no music was allowed just to make it more sociable with other runners. Date of review: March 19, 2012
In short: Superb race with buttery-smooth organisation and a band of very merry marshals In full: This was an absolutely superb race which I thoroughly enjoyed.
The distance markers were pretty spot on, the fuel stops exceeded all expectation and the marshals were simply lovely - incredibly enthusiastic and encouraging every step of the way.
As most of this race was along country roads it was important that traffic was managed safely. The marshals did a fantastic job of keeping us safe along the busier stretches and were quick to jump in if a car was getting a tad too close for comfort.
I was happy to part with my £25 for this event. Not only were there more gels and Jelly Babies than you could shake a stick at on every water stop, everyone got a drink and a chocolate bar at the end and the medal was a great quality bit of bling - something worth earning.
For a small donation you could even get a post-race massage at the end.
I will definitely be back for this race next year. Thank you for a great day and keep up the good work! Date of review: March 19, 2012
