In short: A Very Promising Start. In full: Good race, despite the slightly congested/confusing start at the beginning, where runners had to walk down steps and clamber over (small) walls. Well organised event (plenty of marshalls) and magnificent support through the villages we ran through (very uplifting). A lovely finish to the race with great views of the cathedral and tremendous support cheering you home. Nice goody bag and medal at the end (although I would suggest less sponsor logos monopolising the medal - however not the point, as running the race is the main event). I'm not sure if trains were running today that went through the level crossing we passed over during the race, but I wouldn't have been too impressed to be held up by a train, especially if I was going for a pb! Small minor point, smaller water bottles may be more appropriate at water stations, as I can't imagine anyone could drink that much water in one hit (eco friendly too). A big up to the organisers. In short: KP Events, say its flat! Well, I would like to run with the person who said so! Although, the hills aren't steep, they are continuous. Long, slow hills. Runners agreed, it was not what we thought it was. Would, I do it again, not quite sure, In full: atmosphere very disapointing! Obviously, I appreciate it is the first year, so the route def needs tweeking. The start was good and not congested along with the finish. But, where were the advertised shuttle buses back to the school? Date of review: May 1, 2011
In short: Respectable rolling rural road race In full: Well organised road race on mainly country lanes which I think were closed - if not were very quiet as I can't remember any traffic passing!
The marshals were friendly and supporting at key locations, great crowd support at the end an a surprisingly decent goody bag for finishers.
Really enjoyable morning and a credit to Lichfield. My only negative comment would be that there was no directions back to the car park at the start, (about a mile from the finish) Date of review: May 1, 2011
In short: Who turned up the heat? In full: A very good race. Only real moan was the start which was a bit random: cramped conditions meant runners were decending staircases, avoiding fire escapes, jumping off brickwalls and fighting with bushes. Surely the massive field next to the start would have been better? After that though - fantastic. Great crowds, water stops, mashalls and a brilliant finish that more than made up for the "Die Hard" type start. Thumbs up Lichfield! Date of review: May 1, 2011
In short: the best organisation and value 4 money ever !! superb race- credit to the organisers In full: i have done over 25 half marathons , and for organisation and value for money this half wins hands down . a credit to all involved - thank you so much - other races could learn so much from you Date of review: May 1, 2011
In short: A very enjoyable first Marathon for Lichfield In full: A very enjoyable first Marathon for Lichfield. Had fantastic organisation from marshalling, water points, sponge stations and for all those people that cheered you on. There was a downfall which was the starting area and having to either climb over bushes as there was only a narrow area with a few steps as people are rushing to get through to the start which could lead to people nearly fallng over and being trampled on. The other point is more of a personal one regarding water bottles maybe the tops could be taken off as at one point I could not take the cap off the bottle. All in all it was a fantastic experience and thouroughly enjoyed it with a fantastic time, will definately be back next year, Thankyou. Date of review: May 1, 2011
In full: May I thank the residents of Whittington- what a great welcome- and Fradley residents too were encouraging. Numerous marshalls, water points, a sponge point which I particularly enjoyed, and thankfully no issues with the railway crossing. My first half- the heat made the course more of a challenge than I expected despite the fairly flat/ undulating course but commendable organisation, nice views. The goody bag would have benefitted from a commemorative Tshirt maybe but all in all many congrats for Lichfield's first half marathon. Date of review: May 1, 2011
