In short: Lovely race, FABULOUS crowd support and a beautiful medal! In full: Had such a good day here yesterday, brilliantly organised, and fantastic support along most of the route (and I got a pb!). Ok the power station part was a bit dull, and there were a lot of out and back parts but I quite liked that as I got to see some of my fellow club runners along the way. I'm not sure where the hills were that people mentioned, I'd call them slight inclines!! I also liked the water pouches as they were light and didn't cause a trip hazard when thrown on the floor.
My only moan would be about the finish, as there was a bit before the finish that LOOKED like it was the finish, I think it caught a few people out!! Also the chip timer being on the number wasn't great as I know some peoples didnt work.
Overall though a fantastic race which I'd definately do again!!! :o) Date of review: April 16, 2012
In short: Fantastic Race In full: Second time I've done this and really enjoyed it. Like the out and back course, don't even mind the power station as it comes as a bit of a mental challenge :) Used the water pouches ok, start and finish well organised. Can't fault it really Date of review: April 16, 2012
In short: Lovely stuff In full: Ok, bad stuff out of the way first! Water pouches were a bit pointless and gimmicky: some were easy to open and others were a real pain, whilst it did sometimes taste a bit funny. The powerade station were really inconsistant and there was a huge gap in the middle of the race without one (surely I can't have been the only one annoyed by this!) Miles 18 and 19 were very quiet compared to the rest of the race. The course is largely unimaginative and features A LOT of out and back sections, which runners generally hate as they are demoralising. Now the good stuff: the whole event feels like it is a big event; something special. There's some properly good organization behind the whole thing. The course is generally pretty flat with only small inclines to slow you down in the first half. Water stations are frequent. Crowd support is on another level here. Some solid scenery throughout the course. Even the power station has a certain charm about it. Overall a very good event, especially for beginners. If you are thinking about doing it next year I would not hesitate in signing up as entries fill up VERY quickly if previous years are anything to go by, and this event is only going to get bigger and more prestigious. In short: Another great Brighton Marathon In full: I managed a PB of 3:26:12 thanks to being used to the course from last year. Its a fairly tough route due to the hills and this years winds, but I prefer having variety rather than one long, flat route.
The general orgaisation seemed better than last year, though I don't think I'm alone in saying the water bottles from the water stations were a pain to get the hang mid-race.
The crowds were great, as was the courseside entertainment and I greatly enjoyed high fiving loads of people and seeing some very excited kids getting involved in cheering people along.
The only downside was the baggage trucks. I didn't bother last year, as my girlfriend looked after my stuff. This year I decided that I'd use it as last year took us ages to find each other. However, with only one person per turck actually handing out bags it took nearly fifteen minutes of debating for me and everyone around me to get our stuff.
Overall though its a great race. I'm glad I did it for a second year and my only reason for potentially not doing next years would just be to experience a new course in a new place. If you've never done a marathon before, do Brighton, you'll love it! Date of review: April 16, 2012
In short: Great day, great first marathon. I will be back! In full: Outstanding organisation on the day however I found it difficult to collect number on a Saturday due to work commitments. A £4 parking charge for the expo centre was a little steep. If I could have paid extra for the number to be posted I would have. However the actual race was first rate Date of review: April 16, 2012
