In short: Superb atmosphere, big event-feel. The finish gives me goosebumps everytime!! In full: Reading was my first half-marathon in 1984 and it still gets my juices going! Great crowd support most of the way round.
I didn't take a beer from the Nags Head (about 7 miles) but my mate did - he always does!
Probably ran quicker than I was planning but that's what it's about on big events with the adrenalin, noise and support - loved it! Date of review: March 25, 2010

In short: Great finish, good crowds - but let down by too many participants for the width of the course In full: My 2nd half, after Royal Parks. Obviously not as scenic (Reading doesn't have either the tourist sights of London, nor the big parks), but half the price. 12,300 entries made for congestion not just at start (2B expected) but all the way through, certainly for middling performers. See photos and finish-line vids at marathon-photos.com to see what I mean. Pace-makers with flags v.good. Masochistic landlord tempting you with free beer at 7m just b4 a hill. Believe the mile-markers, not the sight of the Mad.Stad. coming into view or the last 3miles will demoralise you. Finishing in the Mad.Stad excellent. V.well organised and marshalled. In short: Great for my first ever half!! In full: I had the advantage of having run sections of the course as part of my training as Reading is my hometown so didn't find the hills a problem. Lots of good points great crowd apart from a few selfish pedestrians cutting across the running path(idiots!!)good refreshments pitstops ect, route was not too bad at all just wonder why oh why cant that horrible green park loop mile be made up else where after a seemingly never ending stretch of the A33 hitting that final loop psycologically very nearly finished me off it was terrific to finish in the stadium though so all was forgiven in the end. In short: Too many bodies, several oblivious music zombies and middle of the road walkers, few bottle necks too BUT fab atmosphere and amazing finish in the Mad Stad. Also covered much more than 13.1 with the detour to the Green start!! Date of review: March 25, 2010

In short: Great fun as usual In full: A classic half. A mostly flat course that negotiates the University, Reading town centre and finishes in the tremendous atmosphere of the Madjeski Stadium. Minor niggle this year was the town centre route was cramped by the crowd, but I still recommend this as required running. Date of review: March 24, 2010

In short: This was my first Reading (second ever half) after having watched my husband do it for 6 years! I was glad I did it, but may not rush to do it again!! Quite tough!!! They say it's flat - but 3 big hills!!!!! Date of review: March 24, 2010
