In short: Muddy, hilly, but the friendly marshals and breathtaking scenery was worth every step! Back next year! In full: This was my first ever attempt at a trail run - and I'm very much a novice at any kind of running, having only started running over a year ago. I picked this run as a post marathon challenge after reading so many glorious reviews on Runners World.
Being the urban city dweller that I am, I went into the race, unfit, untrained, unprepared for the hills and recovering from a hideous chest infection. I jogged, I walked A LOT. Despite being one of the slowest in the field, the marshals were ever so encouraging. Not once was I made to feel bad for being so slow. Even when it poured with rain, the marshals were enthusiastically cheering me on.
The beautiful scenery of the North Downs left me awestruck. I was taking photos like the avid tourist. This run was the perfect reminder of why I fell in love with running in the first place, all about getting out there in nature.
Cakes and cheers at the end were such a nice way to finish the day off. Well done organisers! Definitely be back! Date of review: June 25, 2012
In short: Great run, well organised In full: The course was beautiful and the scenery/terrain constantly changing which made the 30k go quite quickly. I thought the amount of marshals on the course (and their enthusiasm) was excellent and a good amount of water stations which where all very well manned! It was certainly muddy today after the recent weather which lead to a few close encounters with barbed wire fences but that's not really the organiser's fault. The band and the cakes at the finish were great! Would strongly recommend race - I had a great time. Date of review: June 24, 2012
In short: Hilly but managable for road runners - Extremely well organised. In full: Great race overall, particularly the marshalling. Not as painfully hilly as others I have done but a lot of runners had their walking breaks. Due to the rain last few days it was very muddy and slippery on stretches, which often were along barbed wired fences. Although rain is not the organisers fault, perhaps the route could be altered to reduce slippery downhill sections. Having said that, that was only a small aspect of what is otherwise a race I'll definitely do again next year. Date of review: June 24, 2012
In short: Muddy and Hilly In full: My first attempt at anything of this type of distance. The organisation was excellent, the marshals were very friendly and very encouraging, especially for a slowcoach like me. There were more than enough water stations. I'll be back for another crack once I've sorted out my hill training! Date of review: June 24, 2012
