In short: I swore after 2012 that I would never do this race again, but in fairness to the organisers, they took our feedback on board and have come back with what could be a great annual North West marathon. In full: The debacle of 2013 left me never wanting to run the Gtr Manchester maratahon again. They listed to our complaints. The start area and race village ran like clockwork. The parking (although a bit steep at £9) was brilliant, being so close to the start and finish. The route was better (no field at Dunham Massey to cross) and the water and fuel stations were plentiful and well stocked. The course was well supported all the way round and last mile was incredible. The only thing i may suggest is to have more regular distance markers, but using a Garmin, it wasn't a problem for me. Congratulations to xtramileevents for listening to what we had to say, acting upon it, and for giving us an excellent day Date of review: April 29, 2013
In short: big improvement In full: i have to say i only did this again to see if the organisers kept their promises after last years debacle. Parking was easy although paying £9 to park is a bit steep although being so close to race village meant I didnt have to bother with baggage tent as i kept it all in my car. Good enough course and definitely good for pb's as I knocked 38 mins off my last time! The support from the people of manchester was amazing as good as London easily they really made you feel great. Id definitely do it again in a few years time although it would be nice to incorporate both football clubs and some city centre into it but that may just complicate things re organisation Date of review: April 29, 2013
In short: A Massive Improvement In full: I also took part in last year's race, which couldn't be any worse but had a great time yesterday. Would still prefer to be going through the centre down Deansgate at some point, and the price is too steep - should not be more than London! Good PB though and Andy was great on the mic! In short: Good, but not worth repeating In full: Let's get this straight, there is nothing wrong with this race, but neither is there anything special about it. The course is flat, but too much of it is 'out and back', and my Garmin claims it to be 0.4 miles short. Organisation was good, aid stations well stocked, good medal and t-shirt. Plenty of parking at Old Trafford. The aid station crews and marshalls were excellent, as was the public support.
Thank you Manchester, but I won't be coming back... Date of review: April 29, 2013
In short: Flat as a pancake and superb support. I'm still smiling! In full: After the disaster of the 2012 race, I wondered how this year's would go. Well, it was FANTASTIC! Great course (completely flat!), unbelievable support (I felt like a princess) and excellent organisation. Simon has certainly learned all the lessons from last year. The icing on the cake was that I did a PB and got in under 4 hours - hooray. Thanks to all the wonderful supporters and marshalls - you made it a day to remember. Oh yes, the weather was fine too!!!
