In short: Great course - poor logistics, sparse marshalling and post-race chaos. In full: First time out on a marathon in my home town. Great course - but I'm biased. Wonderful supporters and lovely volunteers. Bad points: having to collect race number before felt like we were being corralled into the exhibition - took an hour. Marshalls didn't know what they were doing - not their fault, poorly briefed and sparse in places. Mini-Mile races - which my son did too - was really badly organised - very stressful for parents picking up, by all accounts.
The end of the race logistics of trying to get out were horrible. Got stuck in a people-jam - really put a downer on the end of the race. People offering advice on exits as you left the half mile-long corral and better traffic-flow would have made a big difference.
The organisers need to get a grip. I don't have other marathons to compare this to, but just as an event as big as this - they did not do a good job.
And the online comms need an overhaul - terrible usability. Date of review: April 15, 2013
In short: Incredible experience ! In full: My first marathon , loved it , feel very lucky , I gotta pacing right , crowds carried me , missed a few mile markers , plenty of water & gel stations . Perfect weather . Enjoyed the speakers at the Expo ! Could have done without the bottle necks to get away from the finish ! Date of review: April 15, 2013
In full: I loved it and feel privileged to have been a part of it. My only gripe was the Mill Road Park and Ride which was stressful at the outset as to whether we would all make it to the start on time. Other than that I really enjoyed it. Thanks to all the supporters and marshalls Date of review: April 15, 2013
In short: Getting better every yr In full: Great organisation, amazing support, even the weather decided to behave!!! Doesn't matter if u r looking for a PB, a first time marathon or running to raise money for charity this is a marathon u must do. Date of review: April 14, 2013
In short: Tough despite the perfect weather. In full: Not happy at having to collect my number the day before; complete waste of time. When you enter the most expensive marathon in Britain you expect it to be sent to you. Frustrated at having to walk West for a mile due to crossing points being closed. Understandable but found out later that there were underpasses in town ( I walked to Regency Square) taking you in to Brighton centre. Why were these not publicised to runners? Unlike today's winner I don't think I'll be back but thanks to the organisers and marshals for 2010 and 2013. Date of review: April 14, 2013
In short: Well organised marathon, a good option for a Spring marathon In full: This is a well organised "big city" marathon, that I would run again. The course is quite picturesque with so much by the sea and the crowds are good throughout.
My only complaint about the race was the lack of accuracy of the mile markers and in some cases they weren't in especially visible (or particularly logical) positions. Probably insignificant for some, but I try and gauge my pace on mile splits. Date of review: April 14, 2013
