In short: This race is always on my "must-try-to-do" list. For Devon it does have pb potential and the views beside the riverTorridge are worth the trip alone. Date of review: March 7, 2005

In short: Great race, especially second part along Tarkar Trail. In full: Weather conditions where pretty much ideal, dry, cool and with fairl light wind. A couple of climbs on the outward on road stretch, but long gentle decline compensated for this. The Tarker Trail leg was great having a good offroad surface. The chip system seemed to be a success, hassle free when we arrived anyway. At £9 for a 1/2 marathon, with a good T-shirt, I think represents great value. Date of review: March 6, 2005

In short: It's my local race so I love it! In full: The start is a complete joke - a chalk line on the road next to the undertakers! The Torrington road is open throughout the race so the first few miles are done with the traffic - this makes for quite busy water stations as there is no room to spread out. The Tarka Trail is glorious but not as flat as you would imagine. On the whole this is rather a quiet race, rather like a feisty Sunday run with a few hundred close, personal friends! In short: Beautiful location and a lovely route, but a bit underwhelmed with the start and finish. In full: Beautiful setting and a very interesting course taking in the scenery along a former railway line which is now the Tarka trail. Some people say this is a PB course, which I would disagree with as there are some short sharp climbs and also there can be a strong wind blowing off the Estuary, particularly as you go through the railway tunnel. Support along the parts of the route can be thin or non- existent. The start is the most understated I've ever come across, merely a chalk mark on the road, I had to ask where the start was and still couldn't find it until lots of people started lining up on a side road! The finish was well supported but could have done with a commentator for a race this size. Date of review: September 13, 2004
