In short: A nice day out In full: A no-frills local 10K - turn up, pay a tenner, run the race. Coupled with a fete on the village green. Nice course, more scenic and rural than the previous one. Particularly appreciated the baggage tent - important for non-motorists who can't stow their gear in the boot. I'll be back next year if I can. Date of review: May 4, 2009
In short: a nice day out In full: route a bit fiddly in places (first 2km) and with with a couple of hills to keep you honest; may have been about 100m short. Pretty well organized (although start could have been better controlled - I went to the front) with the marshalls controlling some very inconsiderate motorists well. Nice feel to the event though and I'd do it again. Date of review: May 4, 2009
In short: Always good, but not as good as before In full: My 3rd run, and for a race that I love to do, I was not happy with the new course, which just squashed all the runners together for the 1st K or so, so had to pick my way around newbies for ages, killing my time, and cramped me and the runners around me at the finish line when we were funnelled into a line.
The start could have been organised a lot better, even advising us to get ourselves into time controlled sections would have helped. Date of review: May 4, 2009
In short: Nice course In full: Ok course which is in need of some fine tuning, the start line needs to be more clearer and the finish less congested. That aside its a great course once clear of the start. mars bar and a medal at the end plus a PB to cap it all. great day, will be back next year for a better time again!!! In short: Good Race for a PB. Less than 700 runners therefore nice and relaxed In full: Good race for a PB. Mostly flat with one hilly bit. One water stop at 5k. Good atmosphere mixed with local May Day festivities. Scenery was a bit boring. Good for first timer racer. Parking was easy and close to the start. Date of review: May 7, 2008
In short: A poor example for the kids In full: In the 3k Race, no signage, no results, no-one at the finish, had to walk down a boggy lane to get to the start and finish etc.
When we did ask at the (10k) registration about on the day entries (the only type allowed for the 3k), we were very curtly told "outside somewhere". The few marshalls that they did have in the race were abrupt and in the wrong place. There was actually no-one at the finish at all and the winner did not even know where he was supposed to stop! No times/positions were taken and when we enquired about this the advertised "3k Race" had suddently turned into a "Fun Run". This is organised by a fantastic club and the adults' 10k race was up to the usual high standard but sadly the 3k race was very disappointing and unlikely to inspire future generations of runners.
