In short: Great Marathon training run! In full: I ran a pb for the 16 miler in under 2hrs so was pleased. Good weather helped. Suggest the 16 mile race starts before the 8 miler in future. Mug better than medal (at least you can use a mug), but carrier bag was empty of goodies! Think of the environment. Date of review: October 14, 2006
In short: Nice and flat, good to do a 16 milers In full: Thanks to the organisers and especially all the volunteers who make races like this work. I really liked the flat course, unusual mileage and early start. The goody bag was great (perfect for muddy shoes) but someone forgot to put anything in mine. Date of review: October 13, 2006
In short: Result of the early start but completely without support throughout! In full: This is 10 mins from my house so will forgive it's shortcomings. Well organised, better at the finish than in April. Water stations efficient. The odd portaloo on the course would be useful. Grotty mug which doesn't even say whether you did the 16 or 8m. Nothing in the goody bag! Date of review: October 12, 2006
In short: Early start, but great sense of achievement to compensate! In full: Running past Hampton Court, as the clock chimed 9, rowers on the river, runners on the towpath, sun shining in a blue sky - almost forgot there were 12 miles still to run! Good preparation for marathon in a few weeks. Thank you to organisers, marshalls and the very efficient guys and girls at the water stations. Date of review: October 12, 2006
In short: Good training run for those looking at autumn half/full marathons In full: Well organised, particularly liked the early start. Very flat course, enjoyed the section along the river, however, the A307 was uninspiring to put it mildly. Not a race distance I had done before (16 miles)and as a training run, Dublin Marathon beckons in 3 weeks, it was an excellent work out (I just hope Dublin is as flat!!). The car parking at the Eden Centre was very well organised, mind you it was only 7.00am and therefore not too busy. My only gripe would be the not-so-goodie bag......more like an-empty-bag, a BIG BAG full of .....erh....nothing!!
Overall well worth getting up at 5.45am and abstaining the night before. Date of review: October 10, 2006
In short: KIngston Delivers Again Except in Value In full: This is about my 6th Time running this race and I really enjoy the fast scenic route.. I have done both 16 mile and 8 mile formats. Great Marathon pre training. I do it because I have a lot of friends that won't let me miss it. However the race has been impressively sponsored by Ascics, as in many previous years by Gatorade, Fila, Pepsi and Addidas, I still get the feeling from Human Race that this race seems to profit massively to cover the costs of their other races.
I have 6 mugs from each of the race so Organisers please change the momento I have run out of friends and work places to leave/ foster them on to. £ 15 is quiet a lot of money a for a race compared to more imaganitive running events and formats. So organisers please change the momentos plus the race route or do something extra to stop runners deserting you due to its high cost/ low return. Date of review: October 10, 2006
In short: Great race but a fast pace In full: Good organisation and lovely course but the 16 mile is not for the beginner. Training for the New York Marathon I can handle the 16 miles but at a slow pace (11 minute miles) - was foolish enough to run the first 10k at or under 10 minute miles to try and keep up with the much faster 95% of the field and suffered for the next 10 miles. Entirely my own fault but did get the feeling I would be left behind if I didn't! Still, good prep for NY for that lesson alone and a 10k PB. Date of review: October 9, 2006
In short: A nice run with a long dull bit in each loop. In full: Well organised although the commentator was getting on my nerves! (where do they find these people?). Started on time although it was a bit crowded at first. Gun timing only, so I had to deduct the 10 seconds that it took to cross the start line off of the official time. The mug was a bit crappy, not even the year on it. So don't be surprised to see them again next year! A nice sunday morning run along the river though and well worth the effort of haulng my fat bum out of bed for. May well do again next year as it is so local for me. I Wouldn't travel far for it though. Date of review: October 9, 2006
