In short: A tough test in a magnificent setting In full: This great race is a stern test of specific training:to run the hills strongly, control the downhills and open up down the long finishing straight. The unobtrusive efficiency of the organisation and the family atmosphere with children and even dogs cheering us on made it an event my daughter and I thoroughly appreciated. In short: Watch out for the big hill twice!!! In full: Back for the second year to do this and the course had been changed back to normal. A lot harder than the 1st time with the steep hill being done twice! Mike and the team have the organisation down to a tee and the marshalls were very helpful and full of encouragement. In short: Sadistic Fun In full: Very long and steep hills - it's a bit like fell running inasmuch as you are mostly either crawling up agonisingly never-ending sheer cliffs or racing on the verge of falling on your face down crazy hills. Very little of the course is flat. I've never seen so many people walking up hill before.
Having said that the organisation worked seamlessly and the parking was easy. My support crew thought it was good for supporters - but it's very memorable for runners - my legs are killing me the day after and I'm thinking maybe I'm too old for this kind of mountainous course - am I masochistic enough to do it again next year?? I'll let you know once the pain subsides!! Date of review: February 8, 2010
In short: The hills make it difficult for a PB but I did manage to run 2+ minutes quicker thian last year. Too early to say whetther I will give it a 3rd attempt next year!! Organisation and venue great, Date of review: February 7, 2010
In short: Oh those hills! But the medal made them all worthwhile In full: This was my first big race, and the organisation was all very smooth which made it much easier. There was quite a queue for the loos at one point, but other than that was all good.
The hills were long & steep, but the downhill bits were great, especially the final stretch to the finish, down the drive towards Longleat House itself.
Marshalls were all very cheerful & encouraging, and I *love* my medal :-)
In short: Fantastic goodies at the end. Nice to be given something I will actually use. In full: Absolutely killer hills, but great fun throwing myself down them after the slog up. Friendly atmosphere, pretty views - didn't see any lions though! (apart from on the medal) Date of review: February 7, 2010
In short: Location great - hills not great - number of loos not great - medal great In full: I did have hopes for a slighlty faster race (for me) but simply wasn't as fit as I needed to be to power up the hills. I will do it again but will prepare a little better. The organisers could have provided a more uplifting start to fit in with the atmospheric nature of Longleat. Loved the freebies - where was the 'Bag' to carry 'em? Date of review: February 7, 2010
