In short: Excellent challenging run with great variety of scenery and just enough hills mainly in the first half of the run.. Excellent organisation , well stocked drinks stations, friendly support from marshalls and fruitcake and tea at the end! t In full: It's challenges like this that remind you how beautiful this little island is. Would definitely do it again. Date of review: September 29, 2008

In short: excellent as marathon training run In full: Well organised. Friendly club & runners. Great scenery & lots of variation, no boring bits at all & despite going quite slow the 20 miles seem go by quicker than my other long runs. Date of review: September 28, 2008
In short: A perfect day to be out on the Downs. In full: After the foggy and cool start and the shock of that initial climb to the top of the Downs, it soon warmed up to become a gloriously sunny day.
The change of route this year has made this an even more scenic and enjoyable run. Dunstable Downs and the 1.5mile valley section to Nettleton is as good as it gets scenery-wise, and it is on days like this that makes running so fantastic.
Armed with a detailed route description, it was obvious to me that Dunstable Road Runners succeeded with the unenviable task of marking the route so well that the instructions weren't required. The well stocked water/food stations/checkpoints also made it unnecessary to carry your own water bottle - these were also manned by friendly and enthusiastic helpers. Time to refuel and have a chat!
The route has what I would describe as three fairly challenging hills (Pipers Hill was a real killer which took me a good mile to recover from). You also had to watch your footing with the many hollows, loose flint, some mud, and countless tree roots. The busier road crossings were marshaled. A good variety of terrain to give you an overall workout!
After the finish which was efficiently manned, there was cheery support from the spectators, marshals and runners that had already come home. Post-race facilities included hot showers, free tea/coffee, free cakes, enough rolls to feed an army, and a fantastic personalised certificate (including exact race time) to mark a great day.
Thanks to Dunstable Road Runners for a memorable day, and I'll return next year without doubt. Date of review: September 28, 2008
In short: Challenging 20 mile course across some beautiful scenery In full: Great pre autumn marathon training run. Friendly club and crowd, challenging but not enough to ruin you, some nice hills and a varied terrain. Course direction were throrough but a map as well might have been handy (possibly!) I loved the post race food, very much appreciated, endless tea and cake and filled rolls...lovely. Certificate with finish time was cool too. I hope to run again next year. Cheers. In short: do not enter if you cannot navigate or read directions! In full: this is a pearl of a race. If you do not know the course recce it a few weeks beforehand or do it in sections if that is too far. Its attraction is that it is not fully marshalled or marked - you have to read the directions and use your intelligence to get round. It's not like other races of follow my leader as the runner in front may have no idea where they are either. marking has been more prevelant over the last couple of years but in my opinion should be removed totally and let Darwins law rule. In short: A Great pre marathon run In full: This was a first time for me. Its not a easy run with several testing hills but the scenery and good company made it a very enjoyable run. If I could I would do it every year, I must point out i belong to the organising club but even so I still think this is a fantastic run. Date of review: October 1, 2007
In short: loved it! In full: A really friendly race, not too competitive because of the navigation element which made it more of a training run. The route was really nice and the refreshments were excellent. Date of review: September 18, 2007
