In short: Overall very well managed and executed. Big thanks to all the marshalls and organisers. In full: This was my first half marathon but I've done other running/MTB and duathlon events. This was very well marshalled. There was plenty of water stations. Plenty of direction markers. I would have liked a few more distance markers in the last mile as I was trying to pick my pace up for a sprint finish. Overall very well managed and executed. Big thanks to all the marshalls and organisers. Date of review: October 8, 2007
In short: Excellent value for money In full: In this day and age, it is very refreshing to enter a race which doesn't rip you off! Great atmosphere, especially for beginners, with an adequate number of friendly marshalls. I agree that the 10K & half marathon should have a bigger gap between the start times to avoid congestion. Otherwise, a gem of a run.
Oh, and a big 'well done' to the guy I ran with (Andy) who beat his PB by 6 seconds! Date of review: October 8, 2007
In short: I ran without a number as my "name was not on the list"!!!!! In full: funny how I got this emal today asking me to comment on the race - I went to collect my number at the start - but I was not on the list of paid runners for the 10K.
I did it anyway and out of the anger got my PB 50 mins! Date of review: October 7, 2007
In short: Great run. I have no real negatives In full: I thoroughly enjoyed the run this morning, I did the 1/2 marathon and was mere seconds out side of my pb. I actually thought it was a flat course, not sure if it falls under the undulating category, but that just makes for a pleasant surprise during the race.
Like a poster below, I noticed that the 8 mile mark was missing. I just assumed that some meddling kids had nicked it to be honest.
In short: Awesome- first ever road win! In full: Concur with other comments - excellent water provision, missed mile marker 8 too, slight concern over 10k start - had to weave in and out of 10k back markers for first mile or so. Would suggest setting the half off 5 mins after 10k, not 1 min - would allow field to spread a bit (even 2-3 would be better than 1). Otherwise well signed, and good encouragment from the marshalls.
Followed approx 10mtr behind the race leader (who finished 3rd) from around 1-6 miles. Just couldn't get on terms with him until the slight climb at 6 miles. Suddenly he came back to me quickly and whilst in the middle of trying to put away my empty gel wrapper suddenly found myself in the lead - first time ever in a road race. To turn the corner off the spine road and be behind the lead car was awesome. Gave me a great incentive to push on hard over the next couple of miles. Biggest buzz though was from all the runners going in the opposite direction applauding and encouraging around mile 8 - so generous when they knew how far they had to go - thanks - it was almos overwhelming. Getting tired around 10 miles - still in front no idea how far, and the course always seemed to be going up!! Dug in through 11, knowing that there was some downhill towards 12 (5'49") - counting the time down in 400m laps left. Mile 13 in 5:45 - looked back as I turned onto the grass at the Leisure Centre. Stunned - won it! Thanks Cricklade. Date of review: October 7, 2007
