In short: Start the year as you mean to go on! In full: First time doing this one and after excessive festive fun I was almost hoping that the race was going to be called off but I'm glad it was not despite being 7 minutes outside my PB.
Yes it's far more hilly then most racrs I do but my mistake was starting right near the back. The first 2 miles it was almost impossible to overtake (especially considering the icy conditions). Because of this, the hill came as a shock second time round when I was able to go a bit quicker! Lesson learnt for next year.
The scenery is wonderful especially running across the downs at the start. Organisation was great and as mentioned by most below, the marshalls were fantastic, always smiling and encouraging despite the fact that they must have been absolutely freezing.
Will be back next year, thanks all at Tadworth. Date of review: January 4, 2010
In short: Another excellent race In full: I've done this on and off for 5 years now so not much suprises by way of course. That said, small changes this year up at top improved things. Cold but not as bad as I remember some previous years as it was dry and the icy conditions saved a lot of slipping on frozen mud making for good progress. Not my fastest time but I'm excusing myself with a cold and the aftermath of a very festive Christmas! Once again, I love the momento. Whoever chooses these is a star! Date of review: January 4, 2010
In short: Excellent fitness booster, marathon preparation In full: Very well organised, I appreciated the baggage drop off, pick up arrangements at the start/finish. Sub zero temperatures but the marshalls were well placed and friendly. Two tough hills on each lap. Date of review: January 4, 2010
In short: Fantastic race - thank you In full: Really good start to the year and assess how much one has indulged at Xmas! 8 minutes off my personal best for the distance so maybe I was a mountain goat in another life? Date of review: January 4, 2010
In short: Excellent race in frreezing conditions In full: This is the third time I have run in this event and it is a good way to start the new year; although quite challenging due to the hills it gives a good assessment of your level of fitness (or otherwise).
As others have said, conditions were freezing but special thanks are due to the organizers, marshalls and others who enabled the event to go ahead, and for similing when they must have been frozen! Date of review: January 4, 2010
In short: Cold and Hilly In full: Great fun, another freezing morning but after hat and gloves, shades were the most useful bit of kit, glorious day. I tend notto focus on the view (breathing is enough!) but it did look lovely today. Thanks to all for organising such a smooth race once again.
In short: Well worth a couple of days off the beer In full: Enough to shake you out of New Year's lethargy. Brilliant work from Tadworth to get this on given the icy conditions. Not as hard as I'd been led to belive but perhaps the icy, rather than muddy conditions, were a blessing. Date of review: January 3, 2010
