In short: What can I say, horrendous weather, difficult conditions and still an awesome event. Still worth the 700 mile round trip from the South Coast :-) In full: Beautiful weather Friday, horrendous Saturday (the day of the Race) and fantastic Sunday. The amended course was wet, hard going and challenging. The Organisers where challenged by Mother Nature at here worst and put on a great event. Looking forward to the double Helvlyn & Ullswater in November. These events are worth the hassle of 700 mile round trip because they will do everything to make it happen safely. Thanks for a great weekend when most people were complaining about the weather!!!!!! Date of review: October 6, 2008
In short: Still a brilliant day - despite the weather caused/safety driven route change In full: This was a huge challenge for the organisers this year. Torrential rain and high winds left the car park and 'race arena' waterlogged and led the local Mountain Rescue team to advise that the race should not go onto its normal route across the fells. Naturally, when the professionals from the MRT advise an organiser not to send several hundred people onto a mountain, a responsible organiser listens!
The challenge then was to 'get something on' and this was achieved despite the weather getting even worse. 11k at low level through the mud, including several swollen streams and a number of minor floods isn't the same as 15k through the mountains but it was still a good challenge.
I'm particularly impressed by, and thankful to, the dozens of marshalls who stood around in pouring rain with smiles on their faces to ensure that the revised event went off safely and without a hitch.
A triumph in the circumstances - well done, as ever, to everybody involved. Date of review: October 5, 2008
In short: Brilliant race -- especially in 2007's wonderful sunshine! In full: The 2007 race was my favourite race of all time. Really hot and sunny. Views just lovely. Tough up and back course. Lovely to put tired legs in the lake afterwards! Date of review: November 1, 2007
In short: Fantasic day out, great race and Bluebird Bitter afterwards! In full: What a great race, only managed to do the Garburn and Coniston this year. Will make sure to book the whole series next year. Thanks to everybody involved in the organising and to the marshalls. Date of review: October 14, 2007
In short: I loved this! In full: Fastastic scenery, well organised, children's races and glorious weather. Now if you can just start doing races like this in other parts of the country... Date of review: October 13, 2007
In short: Another excellent event from the Lakeland Trails In full: Running the whole series this year for the first time. Each one so far has been a great highlight of the year. Really enjoyed Coniston - great coure and good weather too. Got round despite minimal training (grand total of 3 miles since Derwentwater!). As a Challenge runner it seems the done thing to walk up the steep bits which suits me fine! Challenge is to beat the Trail Race runners who start an hour later.....6 of them passed me this time. Already entered the series for 2008, and looking forward to Ullswater next month. Thanks to Graham and Claire for such great events. Date of review: October 13, 2007
In short: Stunning scenery, great organisation, wonderful atmosphere. In full: My second race in the series and this was even better that Derwent. Genuinely one of my favourite races of the year if not ever. Incredible scenery and race setting, and the lovely weather helped. Am entering the whole series next year. In short: Ive said it all before. Top race & top series. In full: If only Graham could get the weather right in Keswick in September, we'd have nothing at all to complain about. Roll on Ullswater. Date of review: October 12, 2007
In short: Fantastic event In full: Excellent day out. Hard (for me)but worth every second of effort. Big thanks to Graham & Claire for all their hard work. As ever, everybody made to feel special. Can't get enough of these races - looking forward to the Steamy Surprise. Date of review: October 9, 2007
