In short: Well organised, nice local event In full: Seemed very well organised and just a nice sized event, not too big & not too small. Good support along the course. A few long and steady hills but nothing too bad. Even if at the start they put time zones up a lot of people ignore them anyway... there's always going to be some slower runners / walkers short of common sense. Date of review: September 8, 2010
In short: Better than expected..... In full: I enetered the Half Marathon with a little trepidation, after having heard lots of negative comments from fellow runners who had entered the event in previous years. However, I have to say that I enjoyed the event far more than I thought I would. Yes, the course winds through a few housing estates - but the course was still pleasant enough.... most town/city races take in a few places that aren't exactly easy on the eye so nothing different here. I must comment on the sewage works though.... things that aren't 'easy on the eye' I can cope with, but when they're not 'easy on the nose' as you try and get air into your lungs it's another matter! Start could be improved by organising people by expected finish time - although by the end of the first mile everyone seemed to have sorted themselves out, so again, no worse than many other events. Decent medal, with different medals for the different events which was a nice touch. Well organised baggage storage, lots of toilets, good marshalls and decent goody bag made it a good, value for money, event that I would happily take part in again in future years. In short: Hills Hills Hills, maybe some more hills?! In full: Not for the faint hearted!! my 2nd ever marathon and surprisingly my new PB.... makes Edingburgh look like a walk in the park (without the scorching heat that is!!) Date of review: September 7, 2010
In short: Hills what hills!.................. In full: Made the long trip up from Devon for what was my first Wolverhampton marathon. I was very impressed with the organisation and friendliness of the marshals, but the big disappointment was the course - the word dull is definitely being polite! The smell from the sewer works second time round was stomach churning! That said if you're looking for a PB course then this one is a 'good un'. To all those who thought that course was undulating, come down to Devon and try some of our races!!!! Wolverhampton is like running in Holland........ Date of review: September 6, 2010
In short: Well organised but very dull... In full: First off, thanks to all the volunteers + organisers they did an excellent job. There were stacks of marshalls around the course who were very encouraging.
Good points: - Organisation - Loads of marshalls - Good parking - Fair price - T-Shirt + Medal + Goody bag
The start - needs to be in time zones - there were some very slow folk in the first few rows who held runners up and nearly caused some accidents.
The scenery - remind me never to live in Wolverhampton... couldn't they at least have routed it round the city centre ? (the park at the start/finishd was very nice though)
Anyway, overall a decent enough race, some gentle undulations (some of which seemed to go on for ever) and a fairly fast course although quite a bit of a head wind in places this year.
In short: nice fast course In full: excellant race. The scenery isn't the greatest but the organisation was spot on and the course was nice and fast. Graet meadal and tshirt and nice goody back (especially the shortbread). One or two hills but nothing to challenging Date of review: September 6, 2010
In short: Good, well organised race In full: Another well organised event like last year.I did the half marathon...the 2nd half of the course was definately harder but no real steep inclines. Date of review: September 5, 2010
