In short: Nice flat course to get miles in the legs In full: Typical countryside half, small, quaint, friendly, scenery was as expected. My only grip would be a lack of water stations, i think from mile 4 to 11 was a bit too far strung out but easily resolvable for next year, only another 1 or two required...oh and mile 5/6 or 6/7 was off but no real drama's. Nice medal, great feeling seeing the finish line with a mile to go and a left feeling very satisified for my first half in over a year with a 1.44. Glad organisers are trying to solve the minor issues as it has potential and from the sounds of it much improved form previous years -well done. see you next year Date of review: March 14, 2011
In short: Around the cone and run for home In full: Having arrived early I parked in town for a quick getaway, I enjoyed a hot sweet tea in the clubhouse and observed Martin Burke of nice work doing what an organiser often needs to do... the work of 4 people before and after the race! I enjoyed a nice fast course beating my PB by 12 minutes (only my second half!), But I disliked having to play dodge the wing mirror at my sprint for home. Having declined water around the course I was a bit disappointed at no water at the end. My experience of lord mayors funds is that they often supply families who have fallen on hard times hampers at Christmas etc so a very good cause. So well done the “Nice Work” team I have enjoy the half a dozen races I have attend so far. Date of review: March 14, 2011
In short: Much better organisation this year In full: The organisation seems to have been sorted out in this race. The route is very flat and inviting through nice quiet lanes. Date of review: March 14, 2011
In short: If they could tweek it, it could be perfect In full: AS my first race post baby it was a good one - i set a personal best.
My only gripe is the traffic coming down the track on the way up to the finish line, this caused me to jar my stride when i wanted to make the effort of a sprint finish. The traffic either needs excludung or locking into the car park till the finish. Date of review: March 14, 2011
In short: As a Lydd runner enjoyed it all In full: As a local Lydd runner I would like to respond to some of the earlier comments....we take part in lots of races and often we don't see locals supporting.....lots of locals took part in running this half. Race was much more organised than last year and there was a bigger turn out. Blinding cup of tea at the end many thanks Nice Work and the marshalls. In full: I gave this run another go, after a previous participation in 2008, when the organization was dreadful. Things have improved significantly, and I will return next year. I do prefer these low key events. Three niggles 1) it was a cold day, and the 15 minute delayed start time was frustrating 2) the scenery is uninspiring, I missed the section along the coast - yet the route is virtually traffic free. You can't have it all 3) Runners and car drivers trying to exit shared the same space at the finish could easily have been predicted, and this avoided. Date of review: March 13, 2011
In short: Nothing to complain about In full: This race seems to have taken a fair bit of "stick" during previous years but in fairness, there was nothing to complain about today.
Unless it's windy, the course is very fast and definitely one for PB hunters.Flat as a pancake, if a little monotonous.
The venue was cramped, but the portaloos were a big improvement and there was plenty of free parking in the town even after the car park was full.Numbers and chips were also processed very efficiently, unlike some other races I could mention.
Good to have the children's race first as it meant they got a big audience and plenty of appreciation when they finished, which wouldn't have been the case if the main race had gone off first.
Another big plus- the presentations were very soon after the race finished and the 10 minute delay to the start was no big deal.
Definitely worth the trip. Date of review: March 13, 2011
In short: I have run a better races and I have ones a whole lot worse. In full: I had not heard much in the way of complements about this race before I ran it, but I thought why not give it ago and see what it's like.
It could do with a few more toilets, but then again so could every race I have every run. If you want a PB this is the course for you. Its not the most scenic but if your after that PB who cares. You had a slight delayed start due to the kids race but thats not the end of the world.
Overall I think they have done a fairly decent job.
In short: Fast course and well organised event In full: A good promotion by Nice Work - this is the third of their events I've run. This is a good course for a fast time and although few would say it's scenic it's virtually car free and an easy route to follow. Seeing the finish line infatable from a mile away spurs you on to!
