In short: Very badly organised. 10 loos for 1500 runners! 20 min late starting... In full: Compulsory queue for over half hour to collect chip; queue for bag area; no announcements about delay; everyone started separately; at the finish everyone crowded around the timing mat and some people struggled to get on it due to number of people. Easily the worst organised in twenty years of running. Date of review: November 8, 2009
In short: Stupid organisers In full: I found the oranisation to be nothing short of disgraceful, standing around for EVERYTHING. I dont agree with the majority of people saying it had pb potential. Having to stop for cars and the turn to the bridge for the finish was too tight with the spectators in the way. The path along the river was to rough for running a pb in my opinion compared to a race ran on the streets/roads. Date of review: November 8, 2009
In short: Dreadful organisation In full: Long wait in freezing cold for the loo and then when I was only five away from spending a penny, the gun went and we were off, had to forfeit the loo to make a sudden start, albeit 15 mins later than the scheduled time. Started on narrow pavements with pedestrians (some with pushchairs) walking towards us, then cars crossing in front of us, ok once we ran along the river and quite picturesque here, it all fell apart again at the end. Struggled to get my feet onto the timing mat because of the mass of people stuck in the finishing tunnel waiting to get their medals and goodies, then got cold again standing in cold, sweaty clothes, waiting for my medal and t-shirt, did'nt bother to collect my goodie bag, was too fed up of queueing and just wanted to get home A flat course.. with potential, could have done a PB on this one but was slower than my normal time due to traffic, narrow pavements and congestion from other runners. In short: Good race for Novices like myself.. Route is also flat and can be fast. In full: I didn't have to Q for that long for number and timing chip, but lucky I had trousers and jacket on until nearer the start. Otherwise I would have been frezzing, as it was very cold. The Q's later on for timing chips were very long due to lack of staff. The only other points to mention, would be lack of information at the start I had no idea what was going on and it was getting colder by the minute.. Also the finish line, what was going on there, they should have extended this to 200m, so people could actually finish. I was lucky and managed to cross the line with a new PB... I would most proabably do it again.. Date of review: November 8, 2009
In short: Disgracefully organised! In full: Late start, no information passed to the majority of the runners who, like me, had to stand in the cold November weather for anything up-to and in excess of 60 mins prior to the late start. Marshalling along the route was "OK" but not the best. The finish was pathetic. Having to push your way into a group of runners just to get your timing chip over the electronic line was just not good enough. The goody bag was non existent, my items were handed out separately after having to stand in the cold again but this time soaked in sweat for 15 mins...! A poor event for £14 Date of review: November 8, 2009
In short: Where does one start... In full: An absolutely disgraceful excuse for a run/race.
Toilets, baggage storage and number/chip collection apalling. I queued for over an hour in the November cold. Missed the start.
Like many didn't even know what time the revised start was as they neglected to inform many (most?) runners, unless you were one of the few who heard the 'announcement' on the hand-held 'speaker'.
Started 15mins late, couldn't be bothered with a warm-up as there was no point with the main body of runners long since departed. Spent the race working my way through the field, weaving through runners, and the coaches outside the rugby ground.
No road-signs notifying/warning motorists that a race was to take place. Dangerous for runners and motorists alike.
Medical provision was poor - just one ambulance I believe - and then not even trained medics. Just as well there was no serious incidents/accidents.
Then there was the finish. Sure I wasn't the only one trying to put a strong finish in only to meet a human wall. Some people were kept waiting a long time, when all they wanted presumably was to put on some clothes, and have a drink and get some food.
As others have remarked, could of been so different... I won't be coming back though to see if they can improve upon this farce. Date of review: November 8, 2009
In short: feel like I've been robbed by shelling out for this event In full: Very poor organisation - Man, lorry, couple of mates as marshals, some plastic cups, water, blowup start finish, terrible goody bag - job done Date of review: November 8, 2009
