In full: This was my first full marathon and I enjoyed it immensely despite having to hobble the last few miles due to injury. Yes there are hills, but for every up hill there is an amazing view from the top and a chance to recover on the down hill. The organisation was faultless and supportive with an abundance of marshals who were cheery and encouraging. Definitely on my list for next year!
In short: Beautiful, hilly, friendly, well-organised. In full: This is an undulating hill run through beautiful and varied terrain. We ran through woodland, scenic villages, past ruins and cottages and churchyards, and earned two truly spectacular views of the Surrey Hills.
There is one very steep climb around the half-way point (eased a little by the amazing cheerleading marshall I'm very grateful to). There are plenty of water stations and everybody I ran with was friendly and encouraging. This was a great first marathon. Date of review: September 16, 2013
In short: Challenging but rewarding xc half marathon! Its a must do race every year! In full: 2nd time of running this the Half marathon still not brave enough for the Full! Just as well organised and friendly as last year enough hills to make you work a bit the marshalling friendly and encouraging as are your fellow racers its not PB territory which lets you enjoy the glorious scenery instead and just do your best. Definately be back next year theres nothing not to like! Date of review: September 16, 2013
In short: A great mainly off road marathon In full: This was my second year. There is nothing to fault with this race. The Organization was excellent, the marshalls very supportive despite being out in awful weather and water stops well stocked and plentiful. The course is hard and will probably add 20 minutes to a road marathon time. It is constantly undulating with only 1 steep climb. Would highly recommend. Date of review: September 16, 2013
In short: Friendly, well-organised, scenic event with choice of half or full marathon In full: Awesome event, well organised, easy parking, lots and lots of cheery marshals and helpers, lovely scenery (when I remembered to breath and look up!), friendly and accessible Race Director, 'real' food at start/finish too which is an welcome bonus for hungry spectators and participants. Marathon started an hour before the half, which meant parking and start area wasn't congested too. Definitely recommended! Date of review: September 16, 2013
In short: Best Cross Country race I have ever done In full: This must be the best race I have ever attended. The organisation ran like clockwork, the numbers were just right and the actual race course was perfect in terms of terrain and views. There is a good mix of down hills and up hills. If you are used to training on this sort of terrain you will not have a problem. Even those not used to hills will be fine. The Marshalls were friendly, there was a great commentator as you came in who called out your name and the goody bags were great. I would thoroughly recommend this race. Well done to all who organised this race and made it such a great event. Date of review: September 16, 2013
In short: Even the weather couldn't dampen this one! In full: First time at this event, but what a corker. The beautiful North Downs makes for a fantastic course, the marshals were fantastic (yes, the manic marshal just below St Martha's was still cheering when we came through), aid stations well-stocked and plentiful and bless all those volunteers for standing out in what was at times pretty unpleasant weather. Lousy completion time for us, due to husband recovering from chicken pox, but now we have a good excuse to come back next year and beat our times! Great t-shirt, medal and mug as well. The tech shirts being sold are excellent value. Date of review: September 15, 2013
In short: Excellent race, well organised, lots of water stations. Loved the Pilgrims although some poor guy in front of me nearly had a heart attack. Watch your footing. Date of review: September 15, 2013
