In short: The day Brighton & Hove finally became a city.
In full: Its my home town, so I'm biased, but this really was a truly excellent marathon. Very well organised - the odd glitches that there were will be easily ironed out by next year. The course is quick - quicker than I thought - definitely PB potential. The field was also pretty slow - only 60 or so out of 7500 went sub-3, so it would be a great race for anyone looking for glory. The atmosphere is what made the day though - cheering crowds everywhere - even in some of the more isolated bits of the course. And of course the great weather. Its always sunny in Brighton. Always.

In short: If ever a town/city was made to host a marathon Brighton is the one!
In full: Although this was my first marathon I've run in lots of other races and this was the best by far. I set myself a target time of 3:30 and came in at 3:23 even though I felt like I was crawling for the last 6 miles or so. Yes, there were some problems - toilets, the delayed start and the power station section notably - but the overall experience was incredible. What really made it were Brighton itself - the scenery and route were great - and the crowd support which was amazing throughout. I watched the VLM on TV and have to say it doesnt do anything for me - too crowded; too much about the 'novelty acts' - I would take Brighton any time. I sincerely hope this does become an annual event and my only concern is will the weather ever be as nice again?!

In short: First marathon and I will be back for more!
In full: As my first marathon I just wanted it all to go to plan and enjoy the day, it was fantastic, I loved every minute of it and would happily have signed up again on the finish line for next year!

Great spectator and marshall support, the streets were filled. my only regret is that I didn't jump in the see afterwards!

Well done to all who were involved and all those that ran... see you next year?!

In short: A must, Brighton you are the best!!!
In full: This was my first ever marathon and enjoyed every minute, even when the going got tough. Brighton really knows how to put on a show and the the organisation of this event was fantastic. The crowds were amazing aswell as the marshalls, volunteers etc. Can't really add anything more than others have said appart from if you want to run your first marathon then Brighton really is the place to do it. Lets hope it doesn't lose it's edge by gettting as big as VLM.

In short: First Marathon and I enjoyed the atmosphere
In full: Good Points- The crowd were great, the weather was great and I felt that the benefits/goody bag etc were worthy of the entry fee. I believe that great effort has gone into this and assuming it happens again next year it will be better and better. I will certainly aim to do it again
Improvement Points- The two times, chip time and pass the start line time. There was a difference of 18 minutes for me. The Preston Park hotel was poor, noisey, unhelpful, tatty and terrible value (not really a Brighton Marathon problem). It's been mentioned but the 20 mile stage was hard work as no crowds and dismal scenery. Don't want to be too critical as enjoyed the day.

In short: Brilliant Marathon!! What an excellent marathon debut for the organizers and myself.
In full: For a first time marathon of this size I felt the orgaization was superb. The small glitches with the late start could be excused. The first half was lovely and scenic and the "hills" were really nothing to complain about. I also didn't mind the switch backs as it gave me a chance to see those I knew ahead of or behind me. It also made spectating for my family really easy.

Sadly for me a niggling knee injury became a real issue by half way and the second half was a huge battle. I liked the humour of The Wall. The lone cheering specator/marshall at that point was inspirational, as that stretch was quite grim. Maybe some more music/entertainment or something there would be helpful.

All fuel and water stations were well manned and there were sufficient. On the prom though there could have been better marking of the race area as this was a challenge having to share the space with the people, prams, dogs and toddlers who just wandered into your path.

Absolutely stunning medal received at a slick and well orgaized finish area.

And last but not least......the crowd support was phenominal!!! What an awesome feeling to be cheered down that last 2 mile stretch. Pain or not walking was not an option.

Please, please, please let this be an annual event as I will be back!!

In short: A fantastic race in the best city in Britain!
In full: A great race in my wonderful home city of Brighton. The marathon was extremely well organised and the route was great- especially the sea front sections. Although it was expensive to enter, the medal is really special and the goodie bag with Body Shop frebbies was a nice touch. The best aspect of the day by far was the spectators who were incredible and really encouraged, inspired and motiivated me during the later stages of the race. It also helped that it was a sunny day without a cloud in the sky, which made Brighton really look at its best. All I can say is 'anything London does, Brighton does better!'
