In short: Well run marathon on fast course In full: Changing the running of this race to october was a good decision the cooler conditions make it into a pb course .There are'nt any hills just a few slopes near the end.It was good overtaking the half marathon people on the 1st lap which helped me on to a pb.This was very well marshalled and policed and plenty of drinks stations. All the people moaning about Cardiff(same day)should come and do this one Date of review: October 18, 2006

In short: If I had to sum the race up in one word - lonely In full: A well organised race, shame about the low turnout. I thought the New Forest Mara could be lonely at times but that is a metropolis compared to this. Take out the marshalls & police (who were very friendly) & you could probably count the spectators on your fingers & toes. Bit of a drag uphill at mile 11-12 & 22-23, but definitely a PB course. Would like to know whether the proposed course they cancelled at the last minute was more interesting. I certainly wouldn't tell anybody not to do it, & if I lived closer I'd probably give it another bash. But be prepared for BOREDOM! The boot bag was OK (my wife seemed to nick it pretty quickly!). In short: Pleaseant race, not too challenging, very friendly organisation. In full: A well organised and friendly race, plenty of happy, smiling, friendly marshals and police people. This year was quite cold having to wait around for 30minutes at the 10K start to allow the Half and Marothoners to get away first, as it turned out there would have been plenty of time to get to our start after they had gone. As others have mentioned, the shoe bag momento was disappointing, especially when it turned out to be empty, a chocolate bar or banana etc. inside would have been welcome. However, the race is run for charity so I can at least understand the reasons cost saving.
Note to the organisers: Having entered online months before the deadline, my race number (with sponsorhip form) only arrived two days before the race. If expect people to raise money through sponsorship then you need to get the forms out much earlier next year. Date of review: October 17, 2006

In short: Enjoyable run with PB potential, very well policed and marshalled In full: Start a bit narrow so hard to pass, especally if starting too far back - will know next time. Good route made interesting by a return as the same way out. Not too hilly and a lovely downhill slope from 7k to 9k - which helped. Very enjoyable way to spend a Sunday morning. In short: Different route than advertised In full: Did the half - Good day although spoilt a bit by lack of toilets at the start but understand that was beyond the organisers control. Was it just me but I had a totally different route sent that went into Chudleigh and up a hidious hill that I had mentally prepared for and equated into my running speed. We then turned right instead of left and it was relatively flat, not knowing the area that well meant I held back ... could have gone a whole lot faster if I had known. Agree about the bag but nice medal. I'd only do it again because its local and there was a good atmosphere amongst the other runners Date of review: October 16, 2006

In short: Well organised, loads of water stations and marshalls, 4 race distances, what else is needed?.... oh and a PB In full: Excellent starting before the marathoners - but it did mean a few overtook me on the way round! One of the best medals I've got (in a growing collection). The bag at the end will probably be used more than any T-shirt, mug etc, a little disappointed by it at first - but all profits go to Hospiscare so no complaints really. Water stops every mile, or at least that's what it felt like, pleasant marshalls on every corner. All roads open to traffic, but with the exception of the few driving round with the race very little traffic worth mentioning. It is a challenging course but I managed a PB so it is possible given the perfect running conditions today. Date of review: October 15, 2006

In short: 5 previous 1/2 marathons but managed to get a PB here. Well pleased In full: Great day, well marshalled but not the most scenic of routes. I thought it was fantastic to start the race being applauded by the full marathon runners, who had to wait till the "halfers" went past. Very humbling! I agree with one of the other reviews (Paul Blake 10) - the "novelty" gift was a bit of a joke. The novelty lasted all of 10 secs. £17 entry was the most I've paid to enter any previous race . Still, a good race and one I will look forward to running again. Date of review: October 15, 2006
