In short: Fantastic Run. Loved it! In full: Easy course, great atmosphere especially in Leigh and under the A21 at hayesden lane. Plenty of marshals, traffic free and a fantastic medal giver. Can't wait til next year to improve my time! Date of review: September 24, 2012
In full: Once again a brilliantly organised race. Excellent facilities at K College, I have never been to a race with more than enough toilets before, normally queuing for ages, a major plus. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Support from Leigh was second to none, the whole village must have been out to support. Dame Kelly giving out the medals at the end was the icing on the cake. Highly recommended. Date of review: September 24, 2012
In short: Great race, was good last year and just got better. In full: Was totally thrown by the lack of queues for the toilets, 10 mins before race you just walked straight in - think it's the first race I've ever done which had enough toilets.
Dame Kelly at the end was fab, course was as I expected hard but manageable lessens learnt from last year go gently up the hills and pace yourself.
Only think which really annoyed me was being told at the start no earphones. The course was a course where you could wear them safely (we are adults and can have them on low or just one ear in to hear marshall instructions) but to say you will be disqualified if you wore them left a very bad taste in my mouth. Race organsisers need to remember not all of us are fast whippets and some of us find running with music really helps. Date of review: September 24, 2012
In full: Very well organised, only event I've ever attended that had more than enough loos, including several en route. Lovely course, great support, particlarly through Leigh where the whole village turned out again despite the weather. Then to round it off Dame Kelly standing in the rain for ages presenting everybody with their medals. Very friendly atmosphere and if anybody is trying to pluck up the courage to undertake their first half, this could be the one. Date of review: September 24, 2012
In short: My new favourite event In full: First time at this superb event. Organisation was brilliant. The route is scenic and the hills are short and sharp. Really good support on the way. Nice medal from the wonderful Dame kelly. Great atmosphere - good mix of club runners and new runners. Easily the best Half Ive done - traffic free roads! Will be back next year. By the way, the individual mile markers were spot on , although we seemed to do 13.2miles in total.
In short: Very good - improved from last year In full: I was maybe a little harsh on this race last year. I really struggled with the hills and thought that the marshalling on the roads, in particular, was on the light side.
No such issues this year. In spite of the rain, I found the course easier (albeit still challenging), probably because I was forewarned. The marshalling on the course was much better and the number of volunteers, both young and not so young was absolutely tremendous, as was the support in Leigh. Well done all. K college was great, lots of loos & changing areas and a nice cafe. Very welcoming. Getting a medal from Kelly is always a highlight - she is a real trooper. Only (very minor quibble) would be the goodie bag at the end, but that often seems to be the case these days - must be a recession on or something!
In short: Excellent event, well organised - and hilly! In full: Great event. I did the 2011 race and while that was good, the organisers took on board many of the comments made last year and there were many improvements this year. Good race village, which was warm and had lots of space, esp slick organisation in the baggage room - rather impressed by the lady calling out the numbers as you walked in so they could find your bag more quickly!! Great support I thought, especially in Leigh. More support in fact than last year, much appreciated especially considering the weather and that much of the route is on country lanes i.e. not outside people's houses and not easily accessible given the roads are shut. Very good event overall. Date of review: September 24, 2012
In short: Well done to all for a superbly organised half marathon In full: First time for this race and first impressions from West Kent College race HQ were superb. A great location with warm, indoor, areas for changing, warm-up, drinks etc., and very friendly and efficient bag storage - special praise to the lady who looked at race numbers on your vest and directed you left or right to the drop-off area!
This also has to be the first race I have ever been to that had too many loos - no queues! It threw my pre-race build up - felt I had to form a line somewhere for that authentic build-up!!
Course was quite a challenge with lots of hills but all fairly tame - my Garmin registered it as more a series of bumps than hills! Weather turned out OK for a race in the end but felt for the supporters and marshalls who were all brilliant.
Someone else mentioned the markers - I also noticed the half way point was far too early and the last mile seemed a bit long. I registered 13.22m for the course.
Great to see Kaddy Lee Preston and Dame Kelly who was, as always, fantastic and stood in the rain for ages putting medals over the heads of so many very wet (sweaty!) runners!
In summary, superb location, organisation, facilities, marshalls... I could go on. Brilliant. Date of review: September 24, 2012
In short: Excellent facilities and great organisation and a medal from Dame Kelly Holmes. Challenging in parts due to hills. Will become a regular on the clendar for me. Date of review: September 24, 2012
