In short: This race should be on every bodies "bucket list"........................ In full: Fantastic event, but as with every event, some things could have been better. The actual race was excellent, well marked and devilishly testing. The muddy holes were deep and full of gloopy mud. Mountain goats would have struggled on some of the decents and climbs!!!
1. Signage to the event was lacking, compounded by the satnav error with several cars travelling down a dead end. 2. Unexpected parking problems had a knock on effect on the baggage drop off. 3. Race end, could have done with the guy handing out water being next to the finish coral and not the exit from the goodie bag tent.... 4. Watch out for MUPPET drivers who are late with their date for Hell........ Date of review: November 2, 2009

In short: Brilliant fun, gets better every year! In full: This is the 3rd time I have done the Hell up North and I enjoy it more every time. The hills of hell are getting easier (but only as they haven't changed) but the bog of doom and the bit at the end seem to be getting much longer and harder!! I love it though and it's nice to not have a run where you rely on time or mile markers - I leave the stopwatch at home and just enjoy a magnificently messy trail run! I disagree with the comments about showers - that's all part of the fun!! Just bring bin bags, towels and a change of clothes and shower when you get home!! The only minor amendments I would make are maybe a lap of one of the fields to start with to try and filter people out at the start as there is quite a bit of congestion in the first mile or so. And also have the water stop a bit further on - it was too early in the race - really didn't need water at that point!! Otherwise keep up the good work - fantastic!! Date of review: November 2, 2009

In short: Great fun, I did Hell Down South last year so I thought I'd try Up North this time. i found it much harder and more of an extremely tough trail run that a mud swimmer. Great camaraderie amongst the runners. In full: Don't whinge about the lack of shower facilities or the lack of mile markers - that's what the fun is all about. Great goody bag. In short: Really tough course but thoroughly enjoyed it In full: A tough course made even tougher thanks to the strong winds and recent rainfall.
Minor gripe was the congestion in the first mile or so caused by a handful of hamburger guzzlers who insisted on pushing to the front and then began walking within the first 100 yards, thus creating an unwelcome bottleneck for those caught behind and able to run. Date of review: November 2, 2009
