In short: Spectacular Views , frollicking lambs and aching knees
In full: I was amazed at how organised it all was. The villagers and locals at all points around the course were fantastically welcoming and supportive. But the real reward is in the scenery you get for slogging up those hills. I thought that this was quite a good run for beginners like me because even though the hills are tough the downhills allow you to coast a little and get back the energy expelled in the climbing. And as a beginner a PB is possible as I got one (OK -it doesn't say much for speed up this point).

In short: Toughest half-marathon I've done.
In full: I've done half-marathons fairly frequently for about 20 years, but this is certainly the toughest (so far). Maybe I'm a Southern softie, but we don't have hills like these darn sarf. Thought I was through the worst of it between miles 2-4 (& people were already walking on that second mile), but 9-12: damn! Earned that downhill finish. Organisation was spot on. Plenty of well positioned water stations. &, if you're reading Jasper, thanks for the dates.

In short: fantastic
In full: In terms of hills, hard work and scenery, this is possibly the closest to a fell race that a road race can get. Long downhills followed by tough climbs meant that my splits varied from 6 mins to 12, which beats steady paced monotony any day. The organisation ran like clockwork, I've never seen so many marshalls and water stations, and there's even a pub and a cafe (both open first thing on a Sunday morning) at the start/finish line. What more could you want? An iconic T-shirt maybe? You get that too.
