In short: I've done London now Bupa GNR In full: Firstly,I didn't get my pb of 1:37 6 mins out very dissapointed.Having said that the day went well otherwise.Great free parking in South Sheilds on arrival.(Get there for half seven and your in with a chance).Metro train to Newcastle great.£2.90 single not bad.Hello to the bloke from Settle on the 8 o clock train.Real character.Baggage buses fab and friendly baggage attendants (thanks).DJ before the start brilliant.Atmosphere electric...Abide with me played over the system was touching. The pens got a bit mad...but enjoyed seeing the celeb Dec.The race itself...very frustrating if your serious about running and want a pb every time dont be fed up when you don't get one.Why were runners with orange start walking at Tyne Bridge...ridiculous.Please be more honest with your finish times.Had to zig zag past slowers for 13 miles gave up the pb at mile 10.The folk around the housing estates in Gateshead & SSheilds were marvellous people.Ice pops water oranges sweets sprayed with hose pipe.On pair with London people. You are great people in the North East.No probs getting my luggage back and the walk in South Sheilds back to my car was nice...Lovely place SS nice chippies might go for a break there one day.Drive home not as bad as I thought to Yorkshire. All in all a long day 13 hours in total...but at least I can say Ive done it.Might come back for another go in afew years but races really like London marathon,Leeds Half,Liversedge half and Humber Half are special and def worth going back year after year. Please note park at SS it saves you the hassle of transport if you're going home straight after the race.FINALLY THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED ON THE DAY & ESPECIALLY TO THE CROEDS IN GATESHEAD & SOUTH SHIELDS. In short: Great first half marathon In full: It was a great event but spoilt a bit at the beginning where people (orange numbers) missed the last time slots for their pens and decided to lift the barriers on the white pens and cram far too many people in, it was heaving and a bit scary.
The crowds are what make the event, they hand out ice pops, oranges etc., slap your hand and cheer you on.
The hoteliers and B & B’s must make a fortune over the weekend as the prices are ridiculous and stipulate a minimum of two nights, which is a lot to ask of family and friends who come to cheer you on.
Despite the negatives, it’s still a great event and I would do it again but book a year in advance to get better accommodation.

In short: it's the best in world, why wouldn't you do it? In full: what an amazing atmosphere, the crowds are excellent and the fellow competitors motivating when your lagging a little with the odd "c'mon mate, not long to go" as they pass. Date of review: September 21, 2010

In short: What an emotional rollercoaster!! In full: Well organised, but getting very big now, the runners don't "thin out" anywhere. Not sure I would do it again unless I was running in a Charity Team. Date of review: September 21, 2010

In short: Oh The hills In full: Superb run, brilliantly organised. The support from the crown is second to non, I have never ever ran in a race quite like it. Downside. Massive queue for the Metro (I will walk back to Sunderland I think next time). And the Sugar free Powerade !! Who on earth thought that was a good idea? Not what you need at 10 miles. will I do it again ? Course I will. Date of review: September 21, 2010

In short: Another excellent GNR In full: Another well organised and enjoyable GNR. Usual minor gripes - water & Powerade bottles too large; nice Tshirt but still not "technical". Pens were well marshalled - but some people lifted barriers out of blocks (orange pens)to gain entry and I yet again people were walking BEFORE Tyne Bridge. Well done Nova and marshalls. In short: Great Day! In full: Once again loved the whole day. Set a new PB which i was not expecting as i had missed a few weeks training.Crowd amazing as always really help get you round.I can understand what people say about people walking but at the end of the day this is a mass event so should be expected if people want an event for setting PBs then go do something else this is not what the Great North Run is for, its about the people who run it and support it. Truly a great day! Date of review: September 21, 2010

In short: its all about the atmosphere In full: By far the biggest mass participation event I've ever been involved in. The atmosphere was tear-producing emotional at times - and I'm not even a local, not even English!! I ran a PB, amazing when you consider how crowded it is. I think the crowd (runners and spectators) really pull you along. The organisation was fabulous, everything like clock work. Nirvana do a fantastic job as the travel provider. In short: No potential for PB unless in Orange or before. I would assume alot of people didn't give their correct predicted time as many walking after a few miles. In full: Expensive when you think it costs more to do this than London marathon, The T shirt should be a technical one for that entry fee. I always ask where does all our money go and never get a proper answer. Lack of organisation around pens when runners were walking to them with their families and young children were upset why did the marshalls let them down near the pens this area should be for runners only. We weren't moving for alot of minutes and then other marshalls wouldn't let us in the right pens as we were late. I like the atmosphere but there are to many people in one area after the race so chaos. My baggage bus must have had the worst driver on Tyneside as he had alledgedly had gone around a corner to fast and the whole bagges had moved. My bag was missing until 2 marshalls came and found it for me after 20 mins of them looking. I may do it again in a few years time but I wouldn't rush for next year havkng done this race twice.
