In short: Excellent - once they sort out access to the reunion area (and hot weather!) it'll be perfect. Date of review: May 26, 2010

In short: Great run, got my PB, wish I'd put on more suncream beforehand! In full: The good points: -Great crowd support at the end and in the villages, loved those garden hose showers - Good little goody bag at the end - I though the start was well organised, if you queued early enough for the toilets and found your start pen on time, then there was no problem.
The bad points: -The mile markers were far too small, I didn't spot any between mile 12 and mile 18. -The 1 mile trek to get on the shuttle bus after was not fun for those who'd just run 26.2 miles! -It was a shame all the fun runners/relay runners started ahead of the marathon runners, having to overtake people who were aready walking at mile 2 really slowed down the start.
Overall it was still a great race and I would consider running it again...

In full: A Race with great potential, but some problems need to be sorted for next year.
The Marathon Start time is far too late. Moving the start time forward by 1 or even 2 hours would greatlly benefit the runners, especially on a blisteringly hot day. Also the relay runners should start behind the marathon runners. If the start time was moved forward, they would not be exposed to the heat. The shuttle bus pick up point is too far from the race finish. Walking that distance was quite tough after having run 26 miles. Please sort these issues and you have a great race for next year. Many positives: The pre race Emails. I was texted with my finishing time shortly after the race - fantastic !! The great support and showers from the locals en route - greatly appreciated The brilliant St Andrews Ambulance people who assisted me when I badly struggled during the last few yards of the race - Many thanks to them. And last but not least, Edinburgh iteslf - what a great city. With improvements suggest by myself and my fellow runners, this will be a great event. Date of review: May 26, 2010

In short: Marathons are supposed to be tough, but for the entry fee I expect some reward In full: After doing and hating London this year because of the crowds of walkers/frequent stoppers, I was really pleased to do a marathon where I could just run without anything challenging me but myself. The heat was to be expected but better foresight from the organisers could have meant we weren't out in it at midday. A marathon should start at at 8am or earlier if the sun is out before 6am. The course was spectacular for the first 8 or so miles then got a bit unmotivating. The spectators were genuine, kind and generous. Those with hoses deserve medals as well. The organisation was unimpressive. The queues for the toilets at the start were ridiculously long and unlike London there was noone there to replace toilet paper and keep things in order. The starting pens weren't very clear. I kept water with me after each water station. If I hadn't I don't know if I'd have thought there were enough water stations in the last 13 miles. I didn't mind the mats along the racecourse but I did mind having to walk past the reunion area to get my bag. Luckily we got a public bus back which wasn't a hassle. In all I PB'd and had a much better time than London despite the heat. I just hope the organisers can take everyone's comments on board and make this an all round great marathon. In short: Come on...it was alright really! In full: It's quite hard to be negative about something that was such a worthwhile experience as my first every marathon! The heat couldn't be helped, it's like that most years I believe? I preferred the flats costal towns to the hills of Edinbrugh City Centre and the there was plenty of support, water and (yuk yuk) lucozade. Admittedly, the organisation at the end was a quite lax, one of my supporters heard a staff member say into his walky talky that he had lost control of the crowd. How can you lose control of a crowd that can only just walk a few steps, really slowly and generally in the one direction! The shuttle buses were terrible, the less said the better about those. Overall, I had a great day - like I said my first marathon and I got 4hrs 19mins, which I am very proud (and quite overwhelmed) with! I don't know if I'll ever manage another event of this magnitude so this particular run will always be special for me! Date of review: May 26, 2010

In short: Great race, crowd support first class In full: An excellent race from start to finish, the start went off exactly on time, officials were friendly and encouraging. The support along the course was amazing, the people turned out in their thousands to support the runners which was much appreciated because of the soaring temperatures. The course included a lot of down hill slopes which battered my thighs and the heat was a challenge for all but the grandstand finish was amazing. Thanks to all the organisers , officials and the wonderful people of Edingburgh for a great day. I suppose there will be some complaints about the walk back to the shuttle buses which was a very long way after running a marathon but I took this as an opportunity to keep my legs moving as a cool down. In short: First Marathon - Great Feeling In full: This was my first timed marathon/event and thought it was brilliant. The atmosphere was excellent both due the organisation and spectators alike. The mile markers could have been bigger but that's the only negative thing I can think off. So impreesed was my girlfriend at the event that she now plans to run a marathon and she's never ran more than 5km on a treadmill! Great race/run. Date of review: May 26, 2010

In short: 1st Marathon since 1973, just glad to get round in one piece In full: Good start, organisers cannot predict the weather but plenty of water and lashings of Lucazade around the course ( how things have changed for the better ).Pity about the post race organisation, after 26.2miles in that heat I did not care to walk so far for the baggage and bus back. That is my only complaint, get this right and you are on to a winning event. Date of review: May 26, 2010

In full: As a First Timer found the Downhill & Flat very welcoming after training in the undulating Yorkshire, so glad the course was along the coast rather than up and down the city streets. A more scenic option might have been the Royal Yacht which would have reduced the course's sea bourne length. My grumble was the transport both to the start, and from the finish which became long and almost fruitless (visions of walking to the City Centre) and difficulty getting into the Reunion area (struggling though what felt like battlements!. But grumbles aside as a first marathon I really enjoyed the day and I hope to have sweated out all the Lucozade Sport by Saturday. Date of review: May 26, 2010

In full: Difficult to make comments which seem negative as we had a great weekend returning to our home and being cheered on by our friends. However I felt sad for people who may have read the Runners World top 10 marathons article which described the 'scenic seaside villages' that you run through after leaving Edinburgh. Sorry but Cockenzie power station, Prestonpans and Seton Sands are not scenic. There were plenty of friendly locals who helped out with hoses but if you'd come a fair distance you might have expected more spectacular scenery. Tourists will flock to Edinburgh during a marathon and there is so much potential in the wonderful city so why is it not being taken advantage of. I would do it again if I could run through the historic streets. Thanks to the piper who played us off near the start. A pipe band at the finish line would have been uplifting too.
