In short: Perfect course and conditions, cool, damp, still flat, couldn't be better. I even enjoyed the multilap course. Date of review: April 28, 2008

In short: Great race and well done to the organisers In full: Keeping a marathon in Lancashire is a top achievement and I for one applaud Ron and his team.
Ok the concrete is hard work and very boring but the organisers had to contend with the seafront works, etc and managed to make the best of it.
If you are thinking about giving this a go next year then I would say go for it. Date of review: April 28, 2008

In short: Well organised, flat race with tremendous PB potential. In full: A great day in perfect running conditions. The only organiszational problem was having wheelchair competitors speed through the field just after the start - they should have started before the runners. Loved the malt loaf in the goody bag. Bottled water and lucozade less frequent than the information indicated. Marshall's did a great job. Thanks to all for standing around in the cold, drizzly rain for us. Date of review: April 28, 2008

In short: Good friendly race but could do with a bit extra In full: Mostly every was good, but there was only 1 lucazade station when the officals said there would be about 4 or 5. No showers. More than one portakabin toilet was needed. Positive: A fast course. Date of review: April 27, 2008

In short: Great organisation and PB potential In full: I ran my first sub 3 hr marathon today at the sixth attempt in 2h 58m 06s. I couldn't keep the smile off my face. Great conditions for a fast run with light ran, no wind and about 12C. I thought the organisation and marshalling was excellent. Very well done to the organisers. Date of review: April 27, 2008

In short: A definate PB race. In full: My first marathon and i surprised myself (4hrs 58sec).Weather could have been better but as one of the many cheery marshalls said "its Blackpool what ya expect".Agree that the marathon next year should be a one lap event, apart from that a very enjoyable day, come next year!! In short: Flat and fast but far far too much running on concrete In full: This was my first full marathon and I did enjoy it. It was excellent value - traffic free event, medal, t shirt and goodie bag all for £27. There was some support on the course from marshals and spectators but not a huge amount, however other runners were pretty friendly which always makes a difference. Scenery wasn't amazing, especially as it was grey and raining, but running through the golden mile was fun. The course is fast and flat apart from a few undulations at the northern end, however as has been said before far too much of it is on concrete, especially on the horrendous isolated lower walk. Not only is it depressing and seems to go on forever, the concrete really hurts your feet. If the course was changed I would definitely do it again, but I'm not sure I'd bother otherwise. If concrete has to be included at least try to make the full marathon course a 1 lap affair so people only have to do it once. That said, I know the organisers had trouble with the route this year and full credit to them for organising the event. Other minor gripes - lucozade wasn't available at as many water stations as they had said it would be (only 1, which the full marathon passed twice, as opposed to every other water station), and there were no predicted time boards for runners to organise themselves by at the start, which again the pre-event info said there would be. And can I just say - malt loaf in the goodie bag = genius. All events should have it!!!! All in all a good, well organised event, but could do with a few tweaks to live up to its potential. In short: Great PB potential, long boring concrete stretch In full: Great PB potential - mostly flat except the climb between wlakways laong the seafront. Views ok too with mix of seaview, tower, etc. Long boring concrete stretch of concrete 3M twice was numbving but got to see rge stricken ferry - took a long while to get closer though.
Marshalls and loudspeaker guy encouraging. Some parts of other organisation were confusing at best. Map sent out without course marked on it, just verbal turning points. But without mile markers my family were not the only ones who had problems agreeing were to support from in advance.
Drinks station points contradicted themselves in the paperwork sent out before the race and then didn't seem to match up to either on the course. There was plenty of water but there was not lucozade sport as every other station as advertised and only 2 during the race rather than the promised 3 or 4.
A good race overall, with great PB potential. Date of review: April 27, 2008
