In short: Shame about the shambles at the end! In full: Having been in my bed all last week, the long wait at the finish a contributory factor, this is the first time I've had a chance to see what others thought. I had nothing to judge this race against as it was my first half marathon but the abidng memory is the half hour wait at the finish to be logged and then get my medal. That kinda shocked me. That apart I enjoyed the race and will certainly do it again. Date of review: April 3, 2006

In short: better luck next year In full: Ok there were more runners than they expected but it's the first time I've had to queue to get over a finish line. Everybody else has already said it all, but I hope that doean't put the organisers off doing it all again next year. A flat half that I can get to by local bus has to be good. Seriously heavy medal! In short: Organisational mess...but I had a great time! In full: My first half and I really enjoyed it. Everyone knows about the mess at start and finish...nuff said. I LIKED the doglegs..good chance to see others and everyone seemed to be cheering on friends as they passed each other. Scenery along the water was nice enough. It's Forthside guys..what do you expect? Venice??!! Goody bag was pants...but who cares! I thought the medal was great and I'd much rather have that than a T-shirt I'd never wear again. In short: Thank goodness for the warm weather! (For March!) In full: It's all been said. I have little more to add. Evener sadder now that I see one of the organisers used to be one of the organisers with the Edinburgh Marathon! Not a lot learned from that event, was there! Anticipating lots of changes next year and no Kellogs floor sweepings. Date of review: April 1, 2006

In short: Organisation a bit shabby, but the thing they need to change is the boring course In full: Dog legged course could sap the will of a steroid overdosed bull. And the fun run which my family did was open to the same criticism. If we wanyed to run round a shopping centre we only live 20 minutes from the Metro-Centre in Gateshead...new course required. It was good for the family to be able to go into Centre for coffee whilst they waited for my return.....
New courses next year please.....with no dog legs Date of review: April 1, 2006

In short: Typical of Edinburgh! In full: I am from Edinburgh and have run in races all over Britain, although it pains me to say it Glasgow is "smiles" better! (to quote an old saying). The Edinburgh public are really rubbish when it comes to supporting runners, in Glasgow people at the side of the road cheer everyone, I had the same experience in Dublin, no matter who you are. Edinburgh folk are just so glum. Why is that? I am from Edinburgh and I'm not glum! Maybe it is because I am a runner and know how important it is to have cheering when you are tired.
Anyway, enough of that, I have read lots of the comments and agree on the whole with them. yes it was a disaster at the end, and yes cips would have been better, but it was not so long ago that we didn't have chips, I remember losing my first one in a huge puddle in the Glasgow Half marathon and thinking what a stupid idea these things were! I suspect the numbers of people just caught the organisers out. I have to say though even in the old days I don't remember such a long wait at the end of a run.
Running for me is about being free and fit and enthusiastic for life, I try to be happy and not grumble, okay the run was a disaster, but the organisers have acknowledged this and I applaud them for that, it was even in the Evening News. Lets give them another chance, I will probably do it again.
As for not getting a t-shirt, I have so many I only ever wear them after the race and then they go in the drawer. I only ever wear the t-shirts that mean lots, like my first marathon, tri-athlon etc. There really is more to running than getting a t-shirt, it is about self-esteem and achievement, well it is for me and I've been running to 20 years.
As long as the organisers learn from mistakes and correct them then it has potential to be a nice run. Date of review: March 31, 2006

In short: Really enjoyed it!! In full: Great day!! For all those that don't like early starts, think you are in the wrong sport. Getting up early and having rest of day is the beauty of these events. The scenery was amazing and getting to see all the people in front doglegging back and cheering each other on was amazing. I don't understand whether some people do it just for the t-shirt and the goodie bag?? Perfect weather, nice breeze, not happy?? Go back to your treadmill!!! Date of review: March 31, 2006

In short: Update In full: This is my second post on this one but fair play to Race Director/organisers - they have put a message on their website basically saying it was a 'king shambles. For me, their recognition of the issues and that they will take them on board probably means I will do it again next year (but you only get one second chance!) Date of review: March 30, 2006
