In short: Wind, rain and a bit undulating but a fantastic route! In full: Ok - so a bit of a bad-weather day and I'm sure this put a lot of people off (judging by the number of non-starters), but a well organised race along a sometimes challenging valley route. The 'hill' everyone talks about is a a bit tough - but not as bad as the descent!
The last half-mile could be better planned - but thanks to all the marshalls and organisers for a great, if damp, day.
In short: A fab race which wasn't too difficult but had a good hill which added a sense of achievement. In full: My first Salisbury Half Marathon and thoroughly enjoyed. Small enough to be welcoming but still a good amount of runners. The hill is reasonably tough at about mile 7 I think but not as bad as I had feared. Nice medal at the end and organised well enough although cars are an issue but there is nothing they can do about that. I actually logged on in the off chance the results would be up and they were so felt the need to tell everyone if there is only one half marathon they run a year the Salisbury half should be a contender. And thanks to John who ran with me for most of the race - hope you had a lightning fast finish!! Date of review: October 28, 2007
In short: This year was my first at this race. Beautiful sunshine, wonderful scenery, good support and water stations. Basically thoroughly enjoyable. Challenging but worth it. Date of review: November 4, 2006
In short: Local race with hidden gems In full: I thought I knew the course having run the first half the week before, so couldn't think where the hill was. Found it on Sunday - not the nicest of things to put in! Still - made a challenging race even more so. Fab weather, great company (hope the guy from Dublin I was running with managed to finish!) and it's making me plan my attack more carefully for next year! Date of review: November 1, 2006
In short: Anyone fancy my quads today (tues)!!!!! In full: What a fabulous day. The sun shone on the righteous obviously! Well organised and a big thank you to all the volunteers. Knew of the 'incline' at 5 miles but more undulating than flat I would of thought. But a great day - my running partner thought it was great to as he sat it out with tendonitis!! Unbelievably a PB knocking 11mins off my previous at tewkesbury in May. Well done to everyone concerned Date of review: October 31, 2006
In short: Good race, hillier than they say it is! In full: Great conditions and well organised, although I found it a strain due to a lack of training over the last month and the organiser's comment of "theres only one short sharp hill at 5 miles" was not completely true!
Disappointed that there was only water at the finish, but it is cheap to enter and the funds are for charity so to be expected.
On the whole a great race and I would definitely do it again.
[Apparently, the Five Rivers Leisure Centre will be charging £2 for use of facilities next year.] Date of review: October 30, 2006
In short: Really nice race, good organisation! In full: Really impressed by the organisation effort and the voluteers! Nice, scenic route with just the right type of hills for me! My first half marathon went very well, with a faster second half!.....this may have had something to do with my sprinting for the fire station crowd, then having to sprint again for the actual finish line! In short: Nice and scenic course along the river Avon. In full: My wife and I have run both the New Forest and the Salisbury Halves. Everyone raves about the NF and its scenery, it also sells out quite quickly, however, when you get a glorious day like yesterday, you can't fault the Salisbury half at all on any aspect. The course goes along the river Avon using quiet lanes with nice views. It's an interesting run in that it seems to constantly undulate, nothing outrageous, the hill at 5 miles gives an extra sence of acheivement. The organisation was superb, (drink stations, toilets, showers available at leisure centre, massages, parking, results and photos posted on websites in evening). Yesterday was perfect for a Sunday run, we both ran together and got PBs. We will definitely try and run this one again next year and will drag the in-laws out for an airing as well!!! Hope the conditions will be just as good. I'll also be looking into the 10K and 10 mile events organised by the Firestation and see if we can get a series medals!! Date of review: October 30, 2006
